  1. Any major bank, or currency exchange such as Travelex will be able to exchange your dollars for pounds sterling.

  2. The airport, banks in the city (if you go to a small branch outside the touristy areas they will not do it for unless you are a bank customer), the post office, in the city there are also exchange places.

You can use your US debit card when you get here.

I think when we moved over to London from the US my husband got some British pounds before we got here.

  3. You can change it at the airport when you arrive (though the rates are more expensive there).

Many Travel agents, post offices and banks in the UK also have currency exchange facilties to convert dollars to pounds as well as large hotels. Best rates tend to be post office or travel agents and post offices don't charge commision.

Ask the people at the place you are staying, they should know the nearest one, if all else fails ask a police officer.

  4. some US banks have "sister" banks in the UK where you can use an ATM machine and get pounds for NO CHARGE! Ask your bank if they have this plan (I know Bank of America does) Change some money in the airport when you arrive- enough to get you through the first day or two and then find a bank! You can find locations online through Google for the areas you are staying in.

  5. Your best bet is a bank. They give standard published rates. Currency exchange places, like those in airports charge a commission, a % of the amount you are exchanging. It is a rip-off. You can do this in a US bank or in England.

  6. A bank. However, it's gonna hurt your wallet to pay them to convert it >.<

  7. they use pounds in britain

when you get over to britain, you can convert the dollars into pounds in a post office may have a small charge attached but sometimes its commission free.

just google UK post office and search by your new british post code to find your local post office or follow the link below

or, walk into one of the banks, they could advise you further on changing the money over when you get here. or just do it when you get to the duty free at the airport

  8. Don't do it in the airport unless you really have to. Most banks will exchange Dollars to Pounds (GBP) but the Post Office usually has a good rate too.
