Where would i go to transfer a building title into my name when there is no [paper] title?

My mother past and now the building she owns is basically mine. Without having to use a lawyer i need to know how to transfer the title or ownership to my name. But don't know what all it involves or where to go to do so.

There has to be a deed somewhere. Check with the Tax Department or building records.
