the easy way to go about this is to put 1/6 in a calculator and find out what the decimal value is (0.16667) then estimate where that would be on the number line.

another way to think about it is to first draw the number line.  divide the area from 0 to 1 into six equal sections.  the first mark made is where 1/6 should be.
