  1. the easy way to go about this is to put 1/6 in a calculator and find out what the decimal value is (0.16667) then estimate where that would be on the number line.

    another way to think about it is to first draw the number line.  divide the area from 0 to 1 into six equal sections.  the first mark made is where 1/6 should be.


  2. The number 1/6 tells you where it is: it is the number such that 6*(1/6) = 1. Thus, divide the interval between 0 and 1 into 6 equal pieces. The end of the first such subsection represents the number 1/6.

  3. Between 0 and 1 because 1/6 is greater than 0 (it's not negative), but it's less than 1 (it's 1 divided by 6).  If you divide the space between 0 and 1 into 6 equal segments, 1/6 will be at the first of these, so pretty close to 0.
