Pricey, cheap but excellent, wacky or fun - I don't mind as long as its not your mum's (unless she'll cook for me)! I need somewhere to go to celebrate my graduation with my parents.

Thanks all.

  2. The Goucho Grill- an upmarket chain of swanky steakhouses. I used to go when I worked in Chancery lane, but there are other branches.

Hmmm - otherwise (if you are going for a budget/casual thing) there is a nice thai above 'The Ivy House', a pub very near the uni district.

  3. china town... soho... the food is excellent and cheap, beware it'll be full of aussie backpackers climbing up 6 flights off stairs to the all you can eat for five quid buffet... with 40 items... the more you pay, the more choices you have... and the less stairs you have to climb...

  4. the best two by far are club gascon - expensive, classy and thrilling and

  16. Chinese; Most of the restaurants in lower Soho, or Mr Wing (book the basement) in Earls Court.....for chaotic fun and downright rudeness at a cheap price Loo Ho Fook in Soho.

Indian; Bombay Brasserie off Gloucester Road (book the conservatory), the Star on Fulham Road, Khans off Queensway - Cheapish - no alcohol.

the Balans chain are a good bet (Soho, High St. Ken, Earls Court, Clapham etc...) - great cocktails, happy hour, reasonably priced, ever changing menu - depends what's fresh that morning.

Where-ever you go, enjoy. - and Congratulations.

  17. Well, I would go to anywhere vegetarian, they have a wild and exciting choice, otherwise I would go to Mazo's.  I am always  on  the lookout for good places to eat in London - there is a very good place at the Serpentine. (Prue Leith, interesting but a bit pricey). Trouble is, there are always good, new places.  Try somewhere less central - look at Notting Hill, for example.

  18. ANYWHERE AROUND COVENT GARDEN

  19. Either at Claridges or at Richard Corrigan's restaurant.

  20. For pricey Le Gavroche is lovely and if you chose the set lunch menu, less punitive on the wallet.

You could also try the Oxo Tower - good food and great views.

On the cheaper side, why not try an excellent Dim Sum restaurant?

Or - if fish is your thing, try Bentleys or Sheekeys.

  21. Why not try a sushi restaurant like Yo Sushi or go to the noodle bar Wagamamas

This well-established restaurant is owned by Antony Worrall Thompson, which might suggest destination dining. Notting Grill, however, is a determinedly local restaurant, from its out-of-the-way location to the idiosyncratic decor seemingly untouched by a big-name designer. The food is predominantly British & an emphasis on the provenance of ingredients dictates some steep pricing: the signature dish of middle-white suckling pig with apple chilli jelly costs £17.50, for instance. However, reader feedback suggests the prices are not always merited & our recent Sunday lunch yielded food that was pretty average: two chewy & fairly tasteless slices of beef were served with burnt roast potatoes, & poached salmon was accompanied by undercooked aubergine. Despite our underwhelming experience, Notting Grill is usually very busy, so the hits would seem to outweigh the misses.

    Chef: Antony Worrall Thompson

    Notting Grill's Chef -

Antony Worrall Thompson studied hotel & catering management at Westminster College before opening his first restaurant, the saucily named Menage à Trois. Serving only starters and desserts, it received fantastic reviews & was rumoured to be one of Princess Diana’s favourites. A string of highly successful restaurants ensued, including One Ninety Queen’s Gate, before he launched Notting Grill in Holland Park, specialising in organic meat, fish & vegetables, in 1997. He has since added Barnes Grill & Kew Grill to his stable as well as several gastropubs outside the capital. Well known for fronting BBC2’s Food & Drink programme, he now presents Saturday Morning Kitchen.

  29. How about the Wolseley in Piccadilly (next to The Ritz)? Good food, good service, not too expensive and great for celeb watching. Alternatively for a really traditional, top class english restaurant you cannot do better than Simpson's in The Strand - the food and service are amazing.
