Tennis magazine ranked her 17th on their all time list back in 2005 (for men's and women's). At first, I was kind of surprised because I thought that she should be higher. After considering some of the greats, I would put at her 11th or 12th. I know I don't have to recap her career here; I'm sure everyone knows of her greatness.

So my question, where would you put Serena on your all-time greatest list?

And, since she is still active, do you think she can break into that top 10 (at least my top 10)?

  1. yes i would put serena willams in the top 10..

my reasons being.... well she powered up womens tennis big time

she brought more dimenstion to it

she is the only active player of todays day to have won all the slams in 2002...

she has won every slam atleast once

she has won a slam or two, while others totally wrote her off

as much as i like justine, and as great as she is.. she never won all the slams back to back...

  2. As far as her ranking my own personal ranking list, she's right under Steffi Graf. Serena inspired me to get out there and play tennis.

Then for a Universal ranking list, she should at least be in the top ten because of all the active women in the ATP she has the most grandslams and she's the ONLY active player to have won them all in a calender year. Serena brought power and allot of heart to the game and so many people would write her off and she'd go out there and kick butt. Also she is still going far in grandslam tournaments and is extremely consistent and now a top 5 player and working her way back to number one. Serena has a kind of tennis game that you just have to stand back and watch because it's so phenomenal and she can literally beat anybody. The thing that can be admired most about Serena is that she knows who she is as a person and a player and she has confidence in herself and what she brings to the table. When you watch her matches you know she's going to bring her A game and if your going to beat her you better be ready to fight her for it. Serena should've been ranked higher on that list, if not top 10, then at least number 12 or 11.

  3. I can't name 16 players better than her! Where did Venus rank?

I'd put Navratilova at the top with Steffi Graf and Monica Seles.

I am 16 so I don't know all the names really from the past but Seles was denied so much by injury and circumstance.

Yeah I agree Serena would probably be up there in around 12th I mean she and Venus have taken womens tennis to the next level and deserve much credit for it.

Well Serena has won all the Grand Slams and been no.1 so she should be up there.

Sorry it's hard to answer because I only know about recent tennis and have only heard about the past greats.

I'd put my Jennifer Capriati in that mix too.

Justine Henin I imagine would have been high up too.
