  1. You need to go to the coast if you want somewhere that is not shut down. That's the basic rule.

If you want somewhere very Spanish, you need to avoid the following:

Ibiza, Mallorca, Lanzarote, The Costa del Sol and The Costa Blanca.

If you go more towards the Costa Cálida / Almería / Huelva you will find more Spanish businesses and Spanish people.

However, the area that is really great at this time of year unless you want 30 + degree heat and if you are not that interested in a purely coastal holiday is Asturias.

You can go to the Picos de Europa for some awe-inspiring natural scenery, go to Ribadesella for a traditional coastal village with cobbled streets and to Gijón for some incomparable cider drinking experiences.

Asturian food is a world of its own with a local cheese called "Cabrales" a welcome protagonist in most recipes and San Sebastián is where all the chic Spaniards from Madrid go on holiday to relax and get away from the searing heat.

    Have fun!

  2. Maybe far north like Galicia, it will be  cooler than here on the coast. There are not many Brits on holiday and fewer ex pats so Spanish it will def. be. It is 34 degrees here in Benidorm, Andalucia is 40 so dont go there!!

  3. Oh it is better if you go to northern spain during august, its not that hot and certainly its weather is pleasant... so might as well go somewhere in San Sebastian..

  4. salou on the costa dorada thast were we are going back too for the 10th year running

  5. llorrett de mar is always lively in october

and not far from barcelona on metro train, only about 6 euros return

  6. I put all information in my blog ,take a look at :

  7. Hi, it's high season here so ALL hotels, restaurants etc are open and thriving! I'd suggest going anywhere in the north, it's far too hot anywhere else  :(

San Sebastian, Santander, Galicia, Asturias, the landscape (and the weather!!!) is quite similar to Britain's but I think you'll have a great time, people are very open, friendly and bars are open til the small hours!!!!

    Regards

  8. Northern coast.  That's where everyone who has shut down their businesses has gone.  Or the mountains.
