  1. You are a native of the state/town in which you were born.

If someone asks where you are from, request a clarification: do they want to know where you are born, or where you currently live?

    All the best.

  2. Tell them you are a child of America. If they need clarification from there then tell them ...... I was born in ( place of birth), but reside in (current State or City).

  3. Depends on the person asking, how long a conversation you want, and why they are asking.

Anyway, if you aren't interested in a long, involved conversation, pick one place--where you were born, or where you lived the longest, or where your family (i.e., parents) is living now, or which you feel the most familiar with.  Just pick one.  If the person then asks questions that don't fit your situation, you can always give them the longer story and explain more details, but usually the "where are you from" question is just for chit-chat.

If you want a conversation that keeps going for a while, ask the person what they mean by "from", do they mean birthplace, where you were raised, where you went to high school, where you go to visit family on holidays, where you've lived most of your life, or what?  Once they define what they mean by "from", then you can answer the question appropriately.  And they'll usually want to know more about why the different questions might have different answers.

  4. I tell people I am from all over Southern California.  I was born in Glendale, spent my first five years in Burbank, and then started moving on average every year.  I lived in North Hollywood, La Puente, several places in West Covina, Burbank again, San Gabriel, San Diego, etc. etc. etc.
