Question:

Where you live, do green-arrow traffic light signals flicker on and off or are they like regular green lights?

I just came back from Winnipeg, Manitoba and noticed this neat traffic light system where the green arrows flicker, making it easier to distinguish the left and right green-arrows at intersections.

I believe Saskatoon did the same thing with their urban traffic signals.

But I don't remember seeing that in Ontario.

In England, traffic lights have another feature (yellow light comes on with the red light just before a red light turns green). I wonder if Canada has that also?

Fill me in on these questions, thanks!

  1. In Saskatoon, some of the green light turning arrows flicker, but some don't.  The ones that don't, when the turning light ends, just go off - no more flicker.  The ones that flash turn to a solid yellow, then turn off.

We don't have the feature that you mentioned that England has (in Saskatoon at least).

  2. The green arrows don't flicker so you notice them.  They flicket to let you know that the Advanced Green is about to end -- meaning you should use caution if you are about to make a left hand turn as oncoming traffic is about to get a green light to start coming at you.

They have the in Ontario also.

  3. I'm from Australia, and they are just regular green lights that don't flash.
