Where you live, when you pass someone you don't know on the street and say hi to them, do they usually respond or do they ignore you or look at you like you're crazy?

  1. When we speak to one another down here (Austin, Texas...ya'll), we reply in kind. Unless it's a transplant. Damned yankees.

  2. i grew up in austin, tx, and it was normal to reply to people who said hi.  i now live in hattiesburg, ms, and the same thing goes. a smile and a wave get a similar response in both places as well.

  3. I used to  live in the city of New Orleans & people always said good night, or hello. I miss that. now i live in north west Pa. in Erie & it is uncommon for people to say hi first , sometimes they respond. black people usally look at me like i'm nuts, unless they're after something. but in NOLA color made no differance.

  4. I live in the 'dirty' south that is

    80% smiles and says hi

20% will give you the cold shoulder

  5. They almost always respond.

I live in the suburbs of New Orleans, LA. Its the same way there too and in other parts of LA and southern Mississippi. However, I went to Texas during Katrina and the only person that responded was from New Orleans. Go figure. This is just my expierence and I haven't been to all of TX, just a part of Fort Worth.

When I went to NY to visit family, I got several dirty looks.

    Though I was born one,

    d**n Yankees!

    lol

  6. theyll probably say hi back. its not too common though.  unless ur in a neighborhood where nobody knows u, then theyll think ur crazy.

actually no i take it back, i live in new york, people will ignore u.

  7. They say Hi, how are you doing, I always respond back.

    I sometimes wave my hand.

    I lived in Las VEGas

  8. i live in boston, people usually ignore you.

but i cant really talk, 'cause i ignore alot of people too (especially males...i always think you guys want something from me and you're never going to get it). but when i go visit my family/friends in gulfport, mississippi and new orleans its wayyy different. people are way nicer, and i'm way nicer because i know the people around me are nicer.
