  1. Well it depends where in Canada you want to live in.

But i would say Mississauga in ontario is a nice place to live.

  2. One of the prettiest, picturesque small cites I've seen would have to be Nelson BC.  It is located in the southern Kootenay region of BC on the great Kootenay Lake.  350 preserved heritage buildings throughout the small city, great lakes, rivers all over in the area.  I read an article last week that young couples are moving there in droves.  People cannot afford the high prices of real estate in the Vancouver area, so they are moving to this region because of the reasonable housing prices, making it a haven for people that want to live in a beautiful setting, and still be able to own their own home.

  3. Everyone else has given you great answers.

Canada is a pretty safe country, even big cities Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, are probably not as busy and crowded as you may think.

I live in Vancouver, and if you are thinking of this part of the country, the North Shore part of the city would be ideal.

  4. Any of the suburbs of Toronto fit that. As for worrying because  its big - I wouldn't bother. Ontario is home to the some of the safest cities in Canada.

Mississauga is actually very large - 750,000 people.

Kitchener/Waterloo combined is only 300,000 + 125,000 for Cambridge. Its small feeling, yet has most of the amenities you'd find in Toronto or it's suburbs.

  5. Ottawa is a beautiful city.  Small and safe, but has great nightlife on Elgin Street.  It's the capitol but also a college town and there are lots of families there.  Plus, the canals are really cool.

  6. Edmonton/Calgary if you take out Canada's 3 biggest cities and exclude the small towns. Living in a big place in Canada isn't a huge danger to your personal safety as long as you avoid the dangerous areas just to let you know.

  7. If you want something like the Suburbs than there are lots of cities around Toronto that have 100 000 - 200 000 people like Burlington, Oakville, Milton, etc.

  8. I agree that Nelson is a beautiful, pristine town...but....VERY expensive to live there and their real estate is out of control right now.

In Alberta there is Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Red Deer, all central, small cities.

It would depend entirely on which region of the country you're looking at.  There are tons of places like you have described all across the country.

  9. I live just outside of Ottawa in an older neighbourhood (Barrhaven) but they are doing major expansions around us. I like it because theres more people and stores but still not very busy.  Its great for families. Its also only about 20 minutes outside of downtown Ottawa. Ottawa is a beautiful city thats not as massively big as Toronto or Montreal and it has more history. I would recommend this area.
