  1. We loved the Amalfi Coast.  It is quite touristy but for a reason.  The city of Amalfi is a pretty beach town with great food and architecture.  We actually stayed in Praiano in a hotel overlooking the Mediterranean.  If I ever returned I would stay in a bigger city like Positano, Sorrento or Amalfi because the roads are very narrow winding and cliffside. It is hard to get from one city to the next by public transportation and taxi's are very expensive.

  2. the best places to go on the italian coast is absolutely the "costiera amalfitana": naples, capri, sorrento, ischia, positano

  3. My favourite is Liguria coast, from Genova to La Spezia. The weather is nice, the water is clean and there are so many lovely villages to see that you can't get bored. I suggest you Cinque Terre, Levanto, Portofino, Portovenere, Lerici

Another beautiful place is Amalfi coast but I've never been there so I can't tell you much, apart from the fact that it's surely more expensive.

  4. Try the small town of Gaeta. Between Rome and Naples, on the wesern coast. Even other italians go there for vacation. The busiest month is August. The beaches are always packed. Nightlife is awesome.

  5. Try riviera of Conero for a less touristed but gorgeous area.

This area is a land of exquisite beaches lapped by the waters of the Adriatic and offering stunning scenery.

Portonovo is the place the locals of le Marche go. It is truly picture postcard gorgeous, immersed in nature, with the sea on one side and the lakes of Lago Grande and Lago Profondo on the other.

  6. Personally I love the coasts of the Italian Riviera. The smaller towns are the best because you get to enjoy the culture the most there. I was just in La Spezia, San Terenzo and Lerici. I would recommend those towns. The last two has just amazing views and they're nice because they are basically within walking distances from each other and other smaller towns. They are also not very touristy.
