  1. Volunteering should be something done out of your heart's kindness and generosity towards others.  Why does it have to be fun and profitable?

Many local Veteran's hospitals and nursing centers could use tons of assistance, but have their funding slashed every year by politicians who never seem to have enough money in their pockets.

Plenty of places exist that desperately need volunteers.

    Just google the word volunteer

  2. Fire Fighting seminar this month. Really cool, you will actually experience the battle with the destructive fire.

  3. Depending on where you live, but here are some sites that can hook you up with some resume building activities.

www.onebrick.org  FREE to join and if not in your area may give you ideas of what type of projects you could set up on your own based on your community

    www.craigslist.org Volunteer section under community

www.amerispan.com is language training and volunteering abroad.  I went to Costa Rica and loved it, but it will cost you.

  4. Join the fight

  6. Haha, wow, that's a broad question! My all-time favourite volunteer experience was working at an outdoor soup kitchen. I was there for 4 years and wouldn't have left if I hadn't moved. I was nervous when I first started but made some amazing friends. I also learned a LOT about homelessness. I still see some of the men in the street when I go back to visit my family, and they still remember me. My whole perception of homelessness changed and now I'm a big advocate. It was so much better than I ever would have thought.

Another really fun experience I had was working at a children's hospital/respite centre for 3-4 years. I learned so much from the kids. They have such amazing spirit and will to live and get better. They're positive through the worst experiences.

I think, though, that my favourite would have to be organizing and participating in rallies and youth conferences. It's so great to have a huge group of people our age out in one spot, fighting for one great cause.

I don't know what you can do where you get a certificate... I did get certificates of thanks, but it's just a piece of paper so I don't volunteer just for that. You want to gain something? You really see a lot that you maybe never would have seen in your life. But I learned so much from the people and the experiences. THAT is what I gained. Knowledge, pride for my work, a new dedication, responsibility, etc.

  7. Animal shelter...or even a vet

  8. I volunteered at an elementary school.  It was a lot of fun and they gave me a certificate for helping.
