Cotto is going to have to do something to make himself super marketable.  Mayweather wants money, Cotto has to find a way to make a fight with him financially irresistible.  A brutal KO over De La Hoya could do the trick.  Lord knows when that could be done.  My guess is that the fight will never happen, which is fine.  Cotto has no chance.  Speed kills and Cotto is an easy target.

1. Cotto-Mayweather will happen when the risk meets the reward and for Floyd that is all about the almighty dollar. I just hope its not to late like Trinidad-Jones

2.Mayweather shouldnt be so concerned with Cotto's PPV sells. Mayweather only grossed so much in PPV sells in 07 because of who he fought Hatton and DLH it wouldnt of made a diffrence if it was him or Cotto. Hatton is selling 50,000 tickets fighting Juan Lazcano and DLH always brings them in. Floyd hadnt produced much star power before these bouts and now he's going on espn talking about he doesnt want cotto geting a free ride off of him. (in so many words)

Bob Arum does not get alone with Golden boy promotion and PBF. Some one on here said Cotto is going to get big after he beats Gomez. Class is in. How do beating a guy off the Contender make you big? Dont even answer that question. Do answer this question. If its a money issue, why dont Cotto put up? Cotto only has 11/2 guy's under his belt. Mosley was 1 and Judah was 1/2. They are the only guy's people new. There's still Hatton out there, Cintron, overrated Margarito and Clottey. If Money is not the issue, why dont Cotto make it none. Come on espn and say, "Im willing to put the money up". It would be up to PBF to respond. Cotto had a chance to fight PBF back in 2004 or 2005, instead he sent Bruseles in there to fight PBF. I think that it will eventually happen.  However, I think that by the time it does happen, Cotto will have been in many brutal ring wars and he will have had a lot taken out of him.  Floyd, on the other hand will only fight once a year until it happens, and he will fight guys that he can beat easily without giving him any serious injury.  So, I think that it will be at least 2 years before they fight- Floyd will fight Oscar this year, and most likely Hatton next year in rematches that he is almost guaranteed to win.  Thats 2 whole years without fighting Cotto, and in those two years Cotto will most likely face guys like Margarito who will give him real physical fights.  By the time it happens, Floyd will be preserved and still at his peak, while Cotto will be somewhat worn down.  Thats how Mayweather works- he waits until the moment is right for HIM before he'll fight someone.  I personally think that Floyd would beat Cotto if he fought him this year because I think that he's just too good for Cotto and I think he is the best pound for pound, BUT Floyd himself won't run that risk of fighting a big physical guy like Cotto when he's at his peak.  I remember on Friday Night Fights, Floyd said that a lot of people say that he "needs to fight this guy or that guy" but at the end of the day, they are the ones that need to come to him and he will fight them when he's ready, and he will dictate the terms.  Whether you like him or not, he's right- The only one that can earn more money than him in one of his fights at this stage of his career is Oscar De La Hoya and thats only because of what Oscar has accomplished and because Oscar is the biggest draw in the sport. The fight will also have to be a huge payoff for him or else he won't take it, and he will have to be civil with Cotto's promoter, Bob Arum.  Cotto will also have to not be defeated in that time and his stock will have to rise enough to where the fight will be at least as big as the Hatton fight (its not there yet, no matter what people say).  Its a lot to assume, but if it all happens the way it should, then I think the money will be too much for "Money May" to turn down and his ego is too big to retire while people say that he ducked a guy that would have beaten him, so the fight will eventually happen, just not right away.

If Cotto gets enough exposure when he destroys Gomez. If the money is their the fight will happen, if not, it wont. I bet Mayweather is going want somthing like 15 to 20 mil for a cotto fight

I will say yes, mayweather is a businessman, his last fights he couldve fought cotto or margarito, but how big would it have been, as big as de la hoya or hatton, NO! I dont like Floyd, but he is a good businessman, he fights guys that everyone knows or who has a huge following, if cotto could become a star not only in his puerto rican home, but in America, mayweather would fight him.  I think that cotto has the talent to become a star like mayweather, but i think cotto will fight mayweather next year in april, after cotto KO's gomez, and margarito or cintron.  Cotto Mayweather would be the best fight in boxing right now to make, not the biggest(atmosphere, popular) but the best maybe next year when cotto wins and becomes a star in the us, it will be the biggest and best fight in boxing.
