Hello I bought 5 lbs of Mega Whey which contains 40 grams of high quality protein etc.. I was reading the label and it said it contains 80 mg of cholesterol which equals to 27% of daily value. Out of all the other things it contains, cholesterol is the highest. Is this a normal range of cholesterol? I go to the gym 5 days a week to slim down, i am a few pounds over weight and if the whey protein will make me gain weight i really shouldn't take it..

  1. The cholesterol is a normal amount contained in most protein powders. It's there because it's mostly made of milk and that's a dairy product. It's not enough to worry about....If you never took in any cholesterol at all your liver would still make it's own...it does anyway...we do need some of it for normal function...skim milk has between 3 to 5 mgs of cholesterol...still not enough to worry with. Typically a protein shake is taken to assist the amount of protein in ones diet. I drink two a day that's loaded with 60 gms for a 12 oz drink..I get all other protein from food sources...but I'm trying to hit 300 gms a day. Protein is the building blocks for muscle...for you...I'd only drink one a day...if yours is like mine it's a meal within itself...

  2. As long as you are not consuming other foods high in cholesterol, you should be fine. My protein powder mix hits me for 30%+ cholesterol per shake. And the milk adds another 7% or so.

Remember you need some cholesterol in your diet for it to be considered healthy.

  3. its wieght gaining whey protein that puts on weight. normal whey protein shakes dont contain too many calories and wat they do contain ul burn off in the gym anyway. dont worry about. ur getting more good from it than bad
