  1. Holland is merely the name of two of the provinces within the Netherlands, namely "Noord Holland" and "Zuid Holland" (North & South Holland respectively)

    However a lot of foreigners do use Holland commonly, and indeed even some Dutch do the same just for convenience (of not having to explain all the time) but the Netherlands is the correct name
