Question:

Which 240sx? Engine swap?

I have decided on buying a 240sx for my project car. I have located an 89 for $2200, and am considering buying it. I've the KA24E in the 89 is not the best, and was considering a CA18DET swap. I was wondering if it would be more cost effective to just wait to find a newer S13 or S14 with the KA24DE and just add some mods to that, or to perform the engine swap in the 89. What would the pros/cons of each be. The 89 appears to be in good condition.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

  1. put a s2000 engine in it

    and then turbo it

    youll definetly run 11sec

  2. KA24 has more available parts.

  3. I think you should do a 1.0-liter swap from a Geo Metro.  Sure you would run 25s in the 1/4th, but at least you would be getting upwards of 40 MPG.

  4. put a 180sx motor in it.

  5. The biggest things to consider are:

    1.  What is your budget on this car.  Doing a CA swap can be a cost effective way to increase power.  You'd get about 180-190HP out of a stock CA.  Throw on an exhaust, front pipe, turbo elbow, FMIC, boost controller and upgrade your fuel system and you'd be right around the 250 mark in no time, provided you get the right parts that the engine will respond best to.

    2.  The KA24DE, while an underestimated engine, will only net you about 250-300 MAX power with full bolt-ons and internals, and staying naturally aspirated.  It's just not a great motor to pull a lot of power out of.  You'll have good torque, but everone wants ponies.

I suggest swinging over to www.nicoclub.com and having a look see through the 240SX, KA, CA and SR forums.  You might even consider taking a look at the RB20/25 as well.
