Question:

Which 'Tesco Value' products can you recommend which aren't completely awful?

I'd never thought of buying the tesco value brand before until recently I bought some of their biscuits because my boyfriend eats through so many of them and was costing me a small fortune.

I'd usually think 'you get what you pay for' but I found that the jaffa cakes, chocolate digestives, custard creams and chocolate chip cookies are all ok and edible. The sachets of 8p instant custard are....strange but surprisingly quite pleasant. The bags of peppers are just normal peppers (I think you get about 5 peppers in a bag for £1.38) I also buy the 14p packs of sponge/pan scrubbers.

Can you recommend any tesco value products?

I don't just mean tesco's own brand I mean the proper tesco value stuff with the blue/white labels :)

If you're going to give some s****. answer please don't bother, I'm just doing this for a bit of fun and it might help some people save a few pennies in the process.

  1. well anything like fresh foods like fruit, veg, salad, fresh unprocessed meat and fish, because nothing has happened to it

  2. The biscuits are great. There's no difference between them and any of the other sorts.

The plain crisps are nice and not too salty. The bread's okay for toast.

Most of Tesco Value stuff isn't too bad.

  3. Their pasta is fine too....basically if it is not meat, fish or dairy I will buy the CHEAPEST I can....their value juice is ok and so is their value soap....half the time it is the same as the other stuff but in a cheaper packaging!

  4. They have decent moose and hair spray I mean it doesnt greese up my hair or anything and the sweet stuff generally is good.

  5. Oh I have used the   sponge scourers  and also  kitchen rolls  which were quite  OK  Don't  usually buy the food things though

  6. miget gems n baked beans -x

  7. tesco own chocolate milk and dark the fruit and nut is my favourite it is better than cad-bury. also tinned tomatoes and baked beans

  8. The majority of tesco value foods are cheap yet taste alot better than the tescos finest. Tbh in my opinion, aha i love their cereal bars and chocolate spread (Y), but just dont buy their actual cereal, its disgusting. Oh their crisps are nice, although i dont eat them anymore :)

  9. Nachos for 30 cent...mmmm...cardboard...

  10. Strangely enough I have noticed that the only difference between Tesco 'Value' is the packaging and price tag, when compared with other Tesco brands like 'finest' etc.

I usually by Value frozen veg -like I said the packaging and price are the only difference.  Even things like frozen white fish are okay and prawns.   I do stay clear away from value sausages and mincemeat - as the weight is made up by fat.  That is just naf.  I also buy the value sliced white and brown bread.  I freeze it when at home, and it makes great toast for the kids.  Keeps fresh for ages this way.

In these times of increased prices across the board, I find the challenge to stretch the purse strings quite enjoyable and often come up with new ideas and solutions for feeding the family.  Not wasting leftovers and bulking out meals with veg and using lentils - just a few of my ideas.  If you try hard enough you can win at the end of the day.

  11. Their Value Range Mature Cheddar is just as good as any other.

  12. My family are on a budget atm so this is the stuff we get..
