I think Buddy should run for prime minister, no not really. Who do you think would make a good politician?

The only player boring enough to be in politics i think is Mathew Lloyd.

  1. I think that there are many mature players with a high level of intelligence that could easily become politicians. We have already seen an example with Justin Madden.

I believe that Shane Wakelin is a very intelligent man, and his involvement in conservation and the environment would make him a great politician.

  2. PETER BELL hands down hes a lawyer anyway

  3. Well I think to be a polly you need to be able to lie so I guess that would rule in Didak & Shaw... (Although they got caught out pretty quick so may need to practice that a bit more.)

On a serious note, there has been talk here in WA for some time that Wirra will go into politics once his footy career is over. Not sure how much people in the East know about Wirra but he has a foundation over here assisting indigenous kids. I hope he doesn't go into politics coz he will end up having to compromise his principles somewhere along the way. Peter Bell was also rumoured to be going there as well but he has said no thank you!!

Lozz: Don't wanna burst your bubble re Shane Wakelin, but Peter Garret cared about the environment to and he's not doing such a bang up job.......

  4. People are approaching this as if politicians will always lie, cheat and knife each other.

Why not try for a better representative - after all, it's been said that people get the politicians they deserve.

Among 21st century players, the standout is probably James Hird. Convincing and well spoken and articulate, willing to knock heads with things he considers wrong e g when he took on Flacco MacLaren the umpire, aware of social issues and quietly doing his best to develop opportunity for others. Except that his family background would probably dispose him to being small-l liberal and the Libs don't want people like that in parliament.

Amonst former players, Brendan Gale the AFLPA head honcho, for all the above reasons.

Except that both of these blokes are in the life they want now - why should they give up for politics?

  5. Intresting question there, ive never really thought about it & to think of a serious player that could be serious and hard working enough to run in politics is hard..since we watch them every weekend tackling and running in footy we dont really get to see what they are like off the ground unless they do an interview or something.

Personally i think dean cox, whenever he discusses the eagles he is serious and always looks to have a strong point to get across, aha coxy for prime minister!

  6. Fev! at least with him, you already know hes gonna hit the pi$$ and stir some controversy, i mean what happened to the last bloke in politics that did that, we made him bl00dy prime minister!! LOL

  7. I see WA players on TV regularly, & also ones from other states, though not as often & out of all of them I would nominate Dean Cox.

He will go into media or politics, for sure, once he retires. He speaks very well. He has the intelligence & common sense to match his football skills.

  8. Either Didak,Cousins or Shaw..

None of the 3 know how to tell the truth, the 3 of them all talk through their *** and none of them can do anything with out having to lie about it...

Those 3 have my vote for PM,all loosers...

  9. Lmao! Actually Matthew Lloyd is probably a very good candidate. He is very diplomatic in interviews.

I once had an ex-Bomber knock on my door because he was running for office. I dont know if anyone remembers Peter Daniel? Red headed fellow...
