Question:

Which AP's should I self-study?

These are the AP exams that I want to self study for. They offer some at my school, but not these ones:

Calculus AB (while concurrently taking pre-calc)

Environmental science

European History

World History

Economics (macro)

Please let me know if these ones are possible to self-study for. I am open to any suggestions on which AP's I should self-study for?

  1. Do colleges accept an AP test score if you have not taken the AP class in school? Even for home schooled students there must be a program for it. I would check with an admission office or your school's counselor.

  2. I took AP Calculus AB this year, and Precalculus last year, and I imagine it would be hard to self study calculus while also studying Precalculus since the material isn't very similar, as the above post mentioned. If you are aren't a senior, I would reccomendthat you self study calculus next year, as long as you ahve astrong math background. I haven't taken any of the other APs you mentioned, but I would suggest that AP Psychology to study. I took a class for it, but I felt like I was doing most of the learning on my own, from reading the textbook and doing practice quizzes. Also, the class is interesting and people seem to think it is one of the easier APs. Good luck!

  3. I am trying to do this too.  Depending on what state you are in some sponsor online classes. (Like ND) I took Calculus AB this year and I would not recommend that independently.

The ones I am looking at are European History, Human Geography, and World History.  I'm geussing these are easier because you can read books and get help from history teachers.  There are forums online for discussion also.  Let me know if you find anything because I can use the help too.

  4. The problem with self-studying is that you need a professional to read your FRQ's since they are big parts of the test.

  5. Sorry but these are not possible to self-study for. Maybe...MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYBE world history if you had a really good regular world history teacher. But you won't be prepared. I took the Calculus AB exam and understanding pre-calc alone is definitely not good enough for Calc AB. My best friend to AP Environmental Science and you definitely need a teacher guiding you through these courses. Sorry.
