I am going into my junior year and I am already wondering about my senior year. I want to be a M.D. (Medical Doctor) or some type of surgeon (i.e. orthopedic). I was wondering if anyone knew which class would be better to take AP Bio or AP Chem? My chemistry teacher last year told me that if you want to become a doctor you should get a minor in Chem, but I have heard otherwise.

  1. AP Bio gave me an internship in a medical lab. You could e-mail doctor's and universities to ask for their advice.

  2. Medical schools do not like AP credit in chemistry biology english and physics (and sometimes calculus). Many will accept it, but some will not at all and others will frown upon it. Here's my recommendation, take the class (and the AP test if you like). Then retake the classes for credit when you get to the university. Why? Because having already taken the class you will slaughter it again at college. A+'s are tasty, and they pad your GPA (especially your science GPA, which is what med schools look at). Take them for honors if your university does that. Biochemistry is the best med school degree. 1/3 of the MCAT is chemistry, and another 1/6 is biology. Take an interesting non science minor like dance or history, it makes you a better candidate.
