My husband and I are considering having him reenlist for another post (currently at Fort Bragg) and would just like some opinions on the other posts stateside. We have a one year old daughter and are NOT looking to try for Alaska, Hawaii, Germany or anywhere else overseas...just in the lower 48. So...where (in your opinion) was the best place to be stationed and why?

  1. well I would say Fort Bragg but since you are already here (I am too) I would say Fort Benning (I grew up there) or Fort Lewis, WA. They are bigger posts, and airborne.

Ive never been to Fort Lewis, however, it always wins 2nd place (after Bragg) and sometimes 1st place for best post according to....the army times? i think.

And Alaska is horrible! I hated it. So I wouldnt look into that either.

  2. Although I have never been to Ft. Carson, Colorado, I hear only positive things.

I was stationed in Hawaii (A+), Ft. Wainwright, AK (D), Ft. Bliss, TX, (B), Ft. Lewis, WA (F), Ft. Leonardwood (C), Ft. Leavonworth (F), Ft. Jackson, SC (B), beem to for training Ft. Knox (C), Camp Shelby, Mississippi (F-).

Sorry didnt know how else to rate / grade them. Unless if you like -25 below weather your missing nothing up in Alaska, however Ft. Richardson is in Ancorage and has decent weather and is a lot better.

I liked Ft. Bliss (El Paso) however had a lot of friends that disliked it. It seemed like if you were single you like it and married disliked it.

But like I said, everyone seemed to love Ft. Carson. So that would be my vote.

  3. Every place I was at is now closed! Ft. Carson Colorado or St. Stewart Washington.

  4. You could try for Fort Benning or Fort Stewart GA.  I was stationed at both bases and I enjoyed my tour.  You don't spend alot of time down range or out in the field.  The are both close to beaches, one close to FLA and the other close to Hilton Head.  Good luck.

  5. I am at Stewart Now and I am not too fond of it myself.  I prefer Fort Lewis because I am from that side of the country, but I heard that Carson is really nice.  Just depends mainly on what you are looking for.  In my personal Opinion I like Fort Lewis, but you got to be able to handle the rain.  Fort Huachuca isnt too bad either.  Good Luck.

  6. The Pentagon.

  7. I loved Ft Drum b/c it was high speed but many don't like rural areas. I HATE ft. Jackson. Ft. Lewis was great. Lot's of stuff to do and great housing.

  8. I've been at Fort Knox, terrible, Fort Gordon, tolerable and Fort Meade, awesome.

Fort Meade is small, doesn't have a lot of brass, is made up of a hodgepodge of mostly Intel units (brigade size and smaller) that leave each other alone and like to be left alone, and is located about 30 minutes from downtown DC and 15 minutes from downtown Baltimore.  There is an international airport minutes away and local, regional and interstate rail stations minutes away as well.

All the big divison posts (Drum, Hood, Campbell, Lewis, Stewart, etc...) are going to be a lot like Fort Bragg.

  9. HAWAII ALL THE WAY! BIG FAT NO TO FT LEWIS! I AM HERE NOW AND IT SUCKS. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH GERMANY JUST CAME FROM THERE. WHY NOT EXPLORE EUROPE WHAT COULD BE BETTER FOR YOUR KID THAN SEE AND LEARN ABOUT THE WORLD

  10. come to india...enjoy life kingsize there
