  1. Sydney is a nice place but very expensive.

Canberra is a University town, not unlike the big Uni towns in America.  It is getting pricey to live, but it has a vibrant University culture and an awesome Rugby team, the ACT Brumbies.  Check out the Australia National University, John Curtin Medical School for studies

Melbourne is a poor man's Sydney.  It's drab, boring and dull.  the best view of melbourne is the Hume Highway in your rear vision mirror.  That's why we call it Melboring

  2. I would definitely say Melbourne.  The public transport there is awesome and the city is very geared for tourists. The thing I love about Melbourne is that you can take a day trip to a variety of different places e.g. the mountains, wineries, the ocean (amazing cliffs & scenery).  It is a happening place food and fashion wise.

In saying that I live in Brisbane and it is also a great place to live. My only gripe is that the place is booming. Now booming is great but the infrastructure is just not coping. Think bad roads, full to capacity public transport and questionable health services.

Canberra is nice but I don't know if it is a happening place for a young person.

Sydney is amazing but I find it a little TOO busy personally. If you're into this kind of thing, go for it!

I'm sorry I can't help you with pre med majors. I know the University of Queensland (Brisbane) is very respected and I believe it offers medicine.

Good Luck with whatever you decide.

  3. sydney is the best.

  4. Sydney is awesome, Melbourne is pritty good, so is Brisbane and Canberra is OK but its pritty small.

  5. Brisbane is great as its got two great coasts on either side.  Byron bay not to far away - google it, its worth while.

I think the transport is pretty good too.

Its more relaxed than sydney and melbourne.

QUT, UQ - excellent uni's worth looking into.

Think about what you want out of the experience and then you will be able to work out which city is best for you.

If I were you, Id be picking either Brisbane or Melbourne.

  6. I would have to say melbourne, its such a different city compared with everywhere i have been the city is now that big but it has everything. The music scene is just amamzing with a huge range of clubs to suit pritty much any taste. I was there for the comedy festival which was held there that was realy good as many of the participants in the festival were also doing stand up in bars around the city after they had done there main performance.

I worked there for several months and although on first impressions i thought maybe i wont like it as soon as i settled in i loved it soo much and found it touture to leave.

The only downside of it is that there is bit more of a winter down there than everywhere else but some would appreciate this as a break from constant sun and heat that the north gets. And its doesnt last for long anyway. It can also be good if you come from a home when you do get a bit of cold weather. Makes the summar seem a whole lot better.

If i recall 2 or 3 of the main uni's are in the city center which is pritty handy, with the big libary being close by (with free internet).

And the women are fittttttt and there is plenty of strip clubs!

I wouldnt realy recomend canberra as when i visited it seemed a dead city with nothing going on, no personality. Not a place id like to live in comparison with sydney or Melbourne.

i cant comment much on sydney as i wasnt there for long.

  7. Sydney is a beautiful city, and the biggest which has its advantages. It is potentially the most stressful city in Australia, but that shouldn't really affect a student.

Melbourne is also very nice. It is smaller than Sydney, but has a great deal of culture. It is also a little colder than the other cities you mention.

Brisbane is sunny, warm and relaxed.

Many people find Canberra to be a sterile place. It has a small town vibe, and is sort of in the middle of nowhere. It is very orderly however.

If I had to make a recommendation, I would say Sydney (but I am a little biased). Unlike many Sydney-siders, I would also rate Melbourne quite highly.

In regards to universities for med, you either want Sydney University (in Sydney obviously) or Monash University (in Melbourne).
