Which Av Receiver/Amp for ps3 surround sound?

hi, i am a little up on all the ps3 cables neede for connecting to amp for surround sound, for games or films, but i am in need of advice to which av receiver i should buy, i dnt have a lot of dosh so a more budget system that i can connect my current 5.1 speaker set up to, i dont think it matters if it has hdmi is that right, because i can digital optical cable it to amp from ps3 that will give a good sound as i only have 5.1 set up, also does it matter about the connection from speakers to amp as i have 2 wires that currently plug into mydvd/amp combo and not coaxial connectors.

For little money and HDMI hookups and a reciever that can decode the new audio formats from Bluray, i would suggest the Onkyo 605 on closeout for 300.00, the Onkyo 705 is about 400.00 and has one more input and a tad more power, but the ganga deal of the century is the Onkyo 805 THX Ultra2 130 watts per channel reciever with 3 HDMI inputs and a Foroudija scaler for 500.00 on select Internet webistes.  This reciever is highly rated and reviewed at sites like AVSForums.com and is a beast of a receiver and is on closeout for around 500.00
