I already own a HD DVD & am looking for a Cheap blu ray player, having read loads of reviews I'm rather confused about version 1.0/1.1/2.0.

I don't require picture in picture & am not interested in downloadable content, all I want to do is watch movies!

So what do I need?

  1. PS3 isn't just the cheapest bluray player - it's the best.  Even if you aren't really into gaming, it offers a tremendous platform for media playing through your home network - and you can use it to download movie trailers from the internet.

  2. PS3... it firmware updates which gives you new options on the Blu-ray player.

the PS3 was 1.0.... after the firmware update it's 2.0.

With a stand-alone you might be stuck with something that can go out of date very quick... that can't happen with the PS3.

  3. HD-DVD is dead, over, gone. sorry. I would get a PS3 with a remote-control, because it is the only one that won't be obsolete by the end of the year..

Oh, and  "louie m", u probable the biggest idiot, ever. HDMI is digital, not analog; it doesn't make any difference over short runs of 3-6 feet (tipical) and that Blu-ray player that u did buy, will be obsolete by the end of the year, completely

    Cheers!

  4. Get a Sony Blu Ray DVD player!!!! I have the BDP-S1 which was selling for $1000 at the time and it sure is worth it. I'm so into brand names and I'd rather pay more for something that I know is top quality. Just make sure you also use a top quality HDMI cable like Monster M series. It definitely helps the resolution and picture quality. DO NOT use the cheap HDMI cables or generic brands. You wouldn't  put an 87 unleaded gas on your Mercedes, would you? Same concept.

  5. Review PlayStation 3 80GB Motorstorm Pack

Blu-Ray player - Reason for buying this system. As I said, i do most gaming on my PC, so that wasn't a big draw for me. I want to watch movies in full 1080p as my tv can display.

I like watching movies so having the best picture quality possible is key for me. And as far as technology goes, there is no better picture quality than what blu-ray and HD-DVD are pumping out.

The alternative to a PS3 would then had to have been a stand-alone player which would have cost MORE than the PS3. So it makes perfect sense to buy one for me.

Remember though, that the blu-ray player is included moreso for gaming than movie watching. In the future, games will require the available space blu-ray disks offer and you won't get that with Xbox 360 which still uses regular DVD's.

I imagine games will take much longer to develop because they will include more, better, bigger, badder content.

That's all good and something not possible with a DVD disk as your storage media. Xbox 360 is another quality item, but for my money you just get more with the PS3 (considering the added cost of an extra HD to match 60GB and a HD-DVD player addon for xbox360).

  6. It's a no-brainer. PS3, every time.

  7. HD DVD is dead Blu Ray is the standard now

I suggest you buy a PS3 it has Blu Ray player and you get a cool next gen console too

Its probably the cheapest Blu Ray you will find
