  1. I lived in West End (inner-city suburb, next to South Bank) for 20 years up til 2 years ago. This is probably the most multi-racial/cultural suburb of Brisbane, with at one count over 40 nationalities attending the West End State School.

There is a fair sized Asian population there, especially Vietnamese, with Indians, Thais, Chinese etc. Of course this also means that there are lots of ethnic restaurants. If you're visiting/moving there, be sure to try Huongs (Vietnamese & Thai) above the Asian breadshop in Vulture Street. Yumm.

  2. Another racist question! People in Brisbane don't care if you're Asian or not. They only care if you're a decent, friendly person.

    EDIT:

    Elizabeth P

Her question is racist only in the context of her other questions. By itself, it's probably OK, but I really wish that people wouldn't bring their exclusive attitudes to our inclusive society. I wish that people from overseas would realise that Australia simply doesn't have the racial problems found in other places, but asking about and being worried about 'race' friendly or unfriendly suburbs is a good way of introducing them here.

  3. Sunny Bank has the most Asians

  4. If you live probably in a suburb dominated by asians, then you and your kids are likely to get some real friends.  There tend to be some suburb populated more by white guys, but dunno what is the probability that you will get as much friends.

  5. Sunnybank, Algester, Sunnybank Hills, Roachdale, Robertson, McGregor, Underwood (All on south side of Brisbane City).

The South side of Brisbane is known to be more "culturally accepting".

  6. I agree with Ozmaniac. There are a lot of Asians in Sunnybank, but I don't know if that makes it 'Asian friendly' or just inhabited by people who don't want to integrate.

I think it's great if we can all live together and not worry about where you were born.

  7. I don't think this is a racist question maybe a stupid one as most brisbane residents are quite friendly towards anyone as long as they are friendly. But Sunnybank as others have stated does have a large population of Asians but don't move there get out and mingle with the rest of us

  8. I stayed in Sunnybank at my son's, and noticed a lot of Asians - but only on my second trip there.  I'm from Southern California and am so used to being around Asians and Hispanics that it took a long time to become aware of them.  They seem quiet and very nice compared to the chaos here!  A lot of grandparents come over to baby sit the little ones.  I am not Asian, but I expect I will be doing the same hopefully soon.  Brisbane is a great place to live, as is Australia.
