  1. To answer your title: none.

Because most software now can't even use all 4 processors. You'll be setting affinity left and right just to operate software, or it'll crash.

Unless you're doing specific high-end graphics (CAD and 3D rendoring and if your video software is programmed to use it) or into serious crunching (SETI and/or Folding units), quads won't give you much of an advantage over the C2D line.

It's a classic example of hardware being ahead of software programming.

  2. Rodger has summed it up nicely.

Yes, the design of the phenom is more of a "true" quad core with 4 cpu cores on a single die, whereas the Intel design essentially bridges a pair of Core 2 duo chips, but Core 2 quads are faster, run cooler, use less energy, and overclock better.

AMD processors cost less for roughly the same  computing power, so sometimes an AMD system with a slighty slower CPU result in a faster overall build- the money saved on the processor goes into a better video card,  extra gig of RAM, etc.

  3. core 2 quads

  4. The Intel quad is actually two dual-cores on one chip but they are still faster than the phenom which is a true quad core.  The phenom is less expensive and delivers more processing power more for you money and is plenty fast.
