  1. We have an HDTV (plasma) with DirecTV with HD Access - and all the necessary cables came with the HD DirecTV box.  There's an HDMI cable, which is the "special" HD cable that goes from your TV to the DirecTV box.  Actually, there were extra cables in the DirecTV box that allowed me to hook up my DVD player as well.  So I'm going to suggest not buying any cables until you see what you get from DirecTV.

  2. HDMI component  cables. Thats if your dvd player has hd. Direct tv should work just like how your old tv is hooked up. It will play hd. The colors are different on hdmi components, blue, red, green, red and white. Regular a/v cables just have yellow, red, and white. Or get the HDMI cable that costs up to 30 or 50 bucks. I seen one for a hundred, i thought thats insane.

  3. I think Direct TV offers up the cables free of charge....

    Get HDMI if they do....

And if they charge, let them do that too...They would sell it at a lower price than the stores would charge, and they would work RELIABLY....because Direct TV isn't going to install cables that DON'T WORK on their system !

    That would cause money-losing callbacks.....

Verizon gave me a Free HDMI cable.....
