I'm thinking about taking my 18-year-old daughter on a Carnival Cruise when she graduates college. There are so many ships to choose from. Which is the most awesome?

  1. the liberty is a gorgous ship and goes to good ports in both western and eastern caribbean. there are teen clubs and 24 hour pizza that your daughter would like along with a water slide and an outdoor movie screen

  2. First off DO NOT take your 18 year old daughter on Disney unless she has a thing for Mickey....

Carnival is GREAT-- I'm in my late 20's and have cruised with them 4 times. I would take a look at the itnenary and choose which one you like best because that is what it is going to come down to. The Conquest, Liberty, and Valor are all nice ships and new.

Do you like beaches and relaxation along with shopping?

The Eastern Carribean is probably the best bet for you.

St. Thomas, St. Martin, and the Bahamas

Are you guys active? zip lining, swimming with the sting rays, rainforrests, jungles, shopping, and BEACHES?

Cayman Islands (the best!), Cozumel, Jamaica, Belize, Costa Maya ect...

I just did the Southern Carribean and although it was nice, if you have never been on a cruise I would suggest the western Carribean on a new Carnival ship...

    Good Luck!

    The western Carribean is better

  3. it all has to do with where you want to go, and what you want to do on the ship... best to check what ships go to the ports your interested in seeing, and then compare the ships to each other....

  4. If your daughter is 18, then she can join in on the adult activities.  My favorite ships are the Spirit class (Spirit, Pride, Miracle and Legend).  However, the Conquest class ships (Conquest, Glory, Valor, Liberty & Freedom) are the biggest and thus offer the most.  The two newest ones (Liberty & Freedom) also have a very large outdoor TV screen.  Here is a picture of one ...

This is what the Conquest class ships look like (this is the Glory) ...

I am familiar with all five classes of ships.  The five classes are Holiday (2), Fantasy (8), Destiny (3), Spirit (4) and Conquest (5).  Only the Spirit and Conquest class ships have an extra cost (optional) alternative restaurant that offers an even higher level of service and food quality, for those special occasions, or for those who just enjoy the better quality and are willing to pay for it (currently $30 per person).

  5. Take my advice.  Forget CARNIVAL.  As the name implies - it is a ZOO!

Focus on Ports-of-Call.  Select a cruise line based on interesting ports-of-call.

I recommend flying to San Juan PR. and taking a Carribbean cruise that includes some or most of these ports:  Barbados, Grenada, St. Lucia, Martinique, St. Kitts, St. John, St. Thomas.

Cunard, Costa and Norweigan CL are good lines.

Alaska is another favorite of mine. Most lines are good on this excursion.

Not Hawaii !!! Don't waist your time on a Hawaiian Cruise, you'll want to get off the ship and explore the islands.

If you want an alternative idea.  Fly to Maui on Delta to OGG airport. Get a hotel in Kaanapali beach area (Hyatt, Sheraton, Westin), rent a car and have the time of your life.  No kidding!

Cost about $ 1,000 per day for 2 people (air, hotel, car, meals, spending cash) , but well worth it.  I promise, you won't want to leave - EVER!

  6. Disney!!!!!!

  7. It depends where you want to go like the upper said, but all carnival ships are going to be fun..

  8. First of all...I disagree with those who think that NCL is a good cruise line.  Second, the western Caribbean is not nicer...it's cheaper.

Carnival is known as the "Fun Ship" because of a slogan that started back in the 70's or 80's...some people think that this means that they are a "party" ship...and there is nothing but drinking and partying that goes on.  Not true.  My fiance and I just went on an 8-day Carnival cruise to Panama over Thanksgiving....we had an extended balcony room and it was completely quiet and romantic.  As always, your vacation is what you make of it.

When planning a cruise, I ALWAYS go by the itinerary.  All of the ships are different and unique.  You will remember the ship, but you will probably remember the ports of call more.

There are good and bad to all of the ports of call.   You could have a wonderful time in St. Thomas...and then go back after a few years and not have as good of a time....and vice versa.

I would figure out one or two places that you (and/or your daughter) want to see the most in the Caribbean...and then start looking at the itineraries that go to those ports...and just go from there.

As far as cruise lines go.  I would stick with Carnival, Royal Caribbean, or Princess if you want a reasonably priced vacation.  Of those, Carnival is usually the most inexpensive.

    Good luck and happy planning!!
