I always hear how the Big 10 has power and the SEC has speed,

but who is tougher, based on schedule, players, and coaches?

Also, how do they compare to other Major Conferences?

  1. Well Jimmy West Virginia absolutely blew Oklahoma out last year so

a Big 12 -vs-SEC championship wouldnt have put together a better championship game senario.

Lets face the facts last year towards the end of the season we had four teams that was playing good football and in fact any four could have been in the NC game.

Oklahoma, Georgia, West Virginia, and USC was in the final 4 or more weeks was on a course that nobody wanted these 4 teams on schedule. USC had too many early losses to gain any good ground to get back into the race, and Georgia suffered the same fate. West Virginia found themselves in the NC hunt only needing one win to get in but Pat Whites injury during the Pitt game cost them that chance and Oklahoma not only blew it against WVU in the Fiesta Bowl last year but like USC and Georgia suffered a painfull loss that they couldnt recover from . Ohio State played very well and they simply was in the driver seat by watching and waiting for either a Missouri or a WVU loss. LSU needed both Missouri and WVU to lose in order for them to get in. If USC had 1 loss less or Oklahoma had the same identical reason. LSU wouldnt even been considered for the NC game last year.

As for the question about the toughest conference. Overall the SEC has the best conference but the SEC does have a BCS conference achillies heel and thats the Big East. For some reason since the big three bolted from the big east to the acc. The SEC has not faired well against Big East teams. In fact the last SEC champion that did not play for the NC game lost to a Big East team in its bowl. West Virginia over Georgia. Then last year S.Florida defeats Aurburn and again West Virginia rolls over Mississippi St.

This year SEC might have a chance but I feel it favors the Big East again and thats when Aurburn travels to West Virginia in Oct. But its

a new system Aurburn is running that West Virginia has almost a decade of expierence in not only operating but defending as well. I feel WVU will defeat Aurburn this year. Also allot of Aurburn fans are happy with choice of new defensive co-ordinater , its the guy from Pitt.

You know he got famous for stopping WVU last year. Well in all fairness. That game Pat White was injured and did not return until the final two WVU posessions. On top of that this co-ordinator with a healthy Pat White has yet to keep WVU under 40 pts. So if you ask me that doesnt sound all that good.

The Big 10 is a conference to recon with in the future. Michigan State

is way ahead of schedule and Wisconsin and Illinoise isnt takeing any steps backwards, Iowa is going to improve and give RRod some time up in Michigan and they'll start to get into the NC hunt as well. Ohio State under thier current coach can never be counted out.

Ranking of conferences in my opinion goes as such

    1) SEC

    2) Big 12

    3)  three way tie: Pac 10,Big East,Big 10

    4) ACC

  2. The championship last year should have been LSU vs Oklahoma as SEC and Big 12 were the two best teams from the two best conferences.

  3. I'd Say the SEC. Both of the past two National champs have been SEC. and several SEC teams are getting better. (alabama, Ole Miss, and several others)

  4. As much as I don't like to tout the SEC because they toot their own horns enough, them.  They've won a lot of championships as of late.  Their schedules are tough, almost EVERY team is a contender.

The Big 10 is basically Ohio State, who has proven to get shown up every time by SEC teams. Yes they have power and yes their players tend to be big forces in the NFL, which is fantastic.  But I'm sick of hearing about them and then them not putting up.  This is the year they need to put up or shut up.

    SEC is proven.

I think the Pac 10 can be competitive this year.  ASU was a force last year and we always know we can expect big things from USC and Cal.  The schedule within their own division, like the SEC, will be very tough.  They're very on top of their recruitment and have a lot of newcommers this year, like the new QB for SC, that have potential to make a big impact.

The WAC will be respected less than ever this year I think since Hawaii was owned by Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.

The Big 12 will be a competitive bunch within themselves but I don't think they're quite on the same level as the majority of SEC teams and a few of the Pac 10 teams.  Give it a few years and then we'll talk.

I think we're going to see an SEC/Pac-10 BCS championship this year.

  5. Just ask Ohio State. SEC RULES.
