Question:

Which Color Where for Two Tone Walls?

I have two colors of paint, a deep basil leaf green and a warm brown and the border that coordinates. The floors match the warm brown exactly. The question is should the green go on bottom and have the light brown on top farther away from the floor or have the matching brown be on the bottom closer to the brownish floor?

  1. Why not try using the colors on opposing walls- the look is now, but can be considered classic

  2. You can do them either way. Test an area first. Paint an small section with the brown bottom and green top. On a section next to that, do the reverse. Let it dry so that you can actually see the outcome. And can pick which you like best. Then just use some primer or kilz to cover the test area before you actually do the painting.

I like the idea of putting the brown at the bottom though. To me it seems like if you would have a brown floor, green lower walls and a brown top it would have too much of a striped look.

  3. If I were you, I'd take a digital photo of the room, a sample of the green paint, sample of the brown paint, and the border.  Then, either on paper or computer, shift the pictures around to see what they look like in various orders.

I personally wouldn't paint brown in a room that already has a brown floor, whether it matched perfectly, or not.

  4. brown on the bottom. definetly.

  5. Definitely have the green on the bottom. If the brown is on the bottom, it might look a little too matchy-matchy, and clash.
