Question:

Which Contender Has Had the Worst Beating?

I have seen Peter Manfredo get rocked by Joe Calzaghe and Afredo Gomez get bombed by Miguel Cotto, but I haven't seen any of the others. Have they all been as non-competitive in their professional bouts? Which of them has gotten the worst beating? Which of them has had the best bout?

  1. I would say that Alfonso Gomez getting TKO'd against Miguel Cotto was the worst.  Peter Manfredo, Jr.'s loss to Joe Calzaghe was also pretty bad, but it was a terrible stoppage and at least Peter wasn't getting knocked down and busted up like Gomez was.  The only other one that I can think of was when Cornelius Bundrage got TKO'd against Joel Julio, but it wasn't as bad as the other two in my eyes.  And Bundrage has recently rebounded pretty nicely with a good win over Kassim Ouma.  Gomez WAS having the best success, but Cotto changed all that...  Right now, none of them are really at the top level- Sergio Mora is getting a title shot against Vernon Forrest, but Mora has looked terrible in his recent fights.  Sakio Bika has already had a chance at the best twice and he lost both times (Calzaghe and Lucian Bute), Steve Forbes is getting a shot at Oscar De La Hoya, but we all pretty much know whos going to win that one, and the rest have either been inactive or have not won a major fight recently (except for Bundrage over Ouma).

  2. Gomez hands DOWN! Calzaghe overwhelmed Manfredo, but never busted him up like Cotto did Gomez and the Calzaghe/Manfredo fight had a horrible stoppage. Also Gomez had been fighting middleweights on the Contender and was never hurt or busted up by much bigger opponents. With that being said, I believe Gomez has had a better career because he has fought the bigger names like Gatti. Also Gomez is in a TOUGH welterweight division and when Manfredo was making noise at 168 the division was very weak (besides Joe C. and Kessler). Both are good fighters but they fought some beasts in their respected divisions and got pounded by the best.

  3. Well Alfonso got hurt more but atleast he tried and showed heart. Mandredo was worse to me because he didn't really show much to me, he just blocked and was to scared and hesitant to punch back. He needed to receive some slaps in order to give. There was also Cornelius Bundrage who got knocked out by Joel Julio, and Norberto Bravo who lost against Andre Berto.

  4. I say Gomez took a worse beating than Manfredo. Gomez had to endure Cotto's punishment longer, since Manfredo prematurely rescued from Calzaghe. The crazy part was that Cotto didn't even go all out in his onslaught against Gomez.

  5. The Beating Clazaghe Put on Manfredo was pretty bad. Cotto beat Gomez down but Gomez wasn't taking at flurry of punches like Peter was.

  6. Alfonso Gomez, he took a beating vs cotto.....cotto held back to..
