Which DVD format should I choose?

I recently bought a DVD recorder and I am learning about recording DVDs. I would like to know whether I should get DVD-R or DVD+R. I would be using the DVDs mainly to give to friends who I have recorded stuff for and to update old videos to dvd. Basically, which format are other people going to be able to watch and which format will I be able to view on my computer (I have an IDE-DVD ROM 16x drive). Thanks in advance!

  1. Almost all DVD players these days will happily play both of those formats so there isn't really a problem unless you give it to someone with a really old DVD player.

I've used both over the years and, although I ran into some compatibility issues in the olden days, I haven't come across any problems for several years now.

I say just go with whatever is the cheapest, I doubt that you will ever run into troubles.

    Hope this helps.
