Which DVD recorders record the most channels?

I'm looking at DVD recorders and I'm finding a lot of reviews from owners saying that they can't record TV shows-they get an error message about the material is copyrighted, for one time use only. Is there a feature that I should look for that will avoid this problem? The only reason I want a DVD recorder is to record shows on TV, which is the best?
