Question:

Which Digital Camera To Buy and Should I Wait Till I Get To Tokyo To Buy It?

So I'm going to Tokyo in 6 weeks and I need a new digital camera. At the moment I have a Canon PowerShot A710is and it's just a little bulky for travel. I want something slim and powerful, as in picture quality. Any suggestions for a new compact (basically non SLR) digital camera would be appreciated.

Also part B of my question is: Should I wait till I get to Tokyo, Japan before I buy the new camera? I've heard electronics are cheaper over there than here in Australia. Would it be cheaper for me to buy the new camera shortly after I land in Japan?

cheers in advance.

B

  1. Like "some" said,

most companies will NOT honor the warranty of a camera NOT purchased in the your country.

  2. For overall best picture quality (both optics and sensor are excellent, as is battary life) I would go with the Kodak V1273.  Perfect for what you want to do .  See link below:

I am just back from Tokyo, and based on what I saw, you would be far better to buy the camera in your home country.  I am not sure how you would have a valid warranty buying in Japan.  It did not appear to be cheaper, given the exchange rate.  Instructions would also likely be in Japanese.
