I have looked for months, and coming close to buy one. No I not a professional, just a occastional picture taker. Sofar I am stuck between these two. I have searched the web for oppinions and not much help, mostly cause the NV40/ 30 is sort of new. Canon is one of my Fav. companies for years, and samsung seems pretty much good marketwise these days it seems with tv's and picture (image) related products. I want to buy something with umph. The 1100 has excellent stuff, but also the effects like color swap and color accent which I want. But with the NV30/40 its all camera and has features, decent ones that keep all photos to seem "well done." I am in a rut and need help on a decision/ direction to go on so I can buy it soon.

  1. I would go for Canon SD1100 IS without any doubt.  If you just print 4"x6" pictures, you can't see the difference between a 8 megapixels or 10 megapixels picture.

  2. Which ever has more mexapixels.

I would personally choose the canon sd1100

    canon has really nice cameras

  3. The NV40 has really great "specs" and, based on the older NV10, may be a great camera (vivid vs retro settings are way cool).  Has image stabilizer and a great "wide" lens.  However, buying a Samsung for a camera is still a risk that you'd take. Personally, I'd still go with the Canon.  Based on experience, going with a Canon or Nikon for a camera has never been a bad choice.  The only way I'd get the NV40 is if I based it on professional (CNET, Steve's, etc.) reviews and user reviews as well.  The problem with the NV40, is that to date, there hasn't been enough reviews to put me over the "brand name" hump.  If you can wait what everybody else says, then I'd eagerly wait for NV40 reviews.  If you have to buy a camera tomorrow, go with the Canon.
