I am really divided between the doctor of Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology. I am not sure which one I want to be. I want to decide earlier so I can prepare for those classes later?

  1. anesthesiologists are involved in surgeries obv. and have very high starting salaries i think it was 80k then goes upwards. Whereas internal med is a number of other things you could do cardiology, endocrinology, infectious diseases, and the list goes on, so it's good in a sense that it gives you a lot of options. All of those have dif. salaries of course starting salaries arent as high as anesthes. No matter which one you choose after all your schooling/interning/res/fellowship and stuff you will have potentioal to make a salary between 100k and 400k.

  2. Im the same, it comes down to if you want to do procedures or not, cos anaesthetics, is very hands on, while internal medicine has far fewer procedures, for me I love internal medicine, but find I need to do procedures to keep interested, so maybe anaesthetics, with attachments to acute pain service for more of a medical type job, or conversely internalist with an interest in some type of procedures like endoscope?

I know you hv to prepare early but just to let you know - you can change your mind, and the preparation you do now, wont make all the difference in getting in your chosen field.
