  1. I don't kow what a Bernese Mountain dog is, but sounds big.  Labs can get big as well.  If you have the room for a large dog, my suggestion is a Lab as I love Labs.

  2. a bernese!

only if you have the space though!

  3. I have a Labernese, and she is the smartest dog I've ever seen!  She can read me like a book.  She picks up on my mood, and provides exactly what I need. She's Loyal, Tender with my kids, energetic outside but mellow inside the house.  She was a breeze to train (even with my limited experience). I wouldn't change anything about her!

The breed was developed by a group called Mira, who breeds and trains dogs for the blind, and so far it's proven to be an excellent guide dog providing sight, safety and companionship to people all over the world.

  4. Both dogs are great!  Labs are known for being smart and loyal, but so are Bernese Mountain dogs, so don't let that be your deciding factor!  They are about the same size.  Bernese Mountain dogs will run a lot more expensive because they are not as common as Labs.  So that may be something to look into.

EDIT:  Bernese Mountain dogs are very close to the Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs, which come in short coat and have the same characteristics.  The breeds look exactly the same, just different coat. http://www.akc.org/breeds/greater_swiss_...

  5. u asked this yesterday!!!!!  its your choice its not gonna be my dog after all

  6. If both these dogs are suitable for your family and way of life, then it's just a matter of looks, which do you think looks the best.

    Personally I like Labs.

  7. I am raising my second lab for guiding eyes for the blind.  i prefer labs.  they're a tad smaller and they have short hair that can be groomed at home by brushing them outside daily.  they love water and are very friendly.  they also love to learn and are easily trained.

  8. A lot depends on how you try want to raise the dog. Lab's are good if you want a very friendly, social dog that will protect you.

Lab's tend to have fewer health problems because they were bred to withstand harsh condition. They're cleaner and don't shed everywhere. My dog is very sweet and loves attention, he's never been aggressive towards anyone (except this one time when a guy friend of mine raised his hand to me playing around, yeah, my dog didn't like that much and almost ripped him a new one...which is good because I know he'll protect me).

I don't know much about bernese, but I have a lab and I think they really are one of the best dogs you could get.

It really is your decision. Think about everything you want in a dog and pick whichever one fits the bill.

  9. Which ever one you take time to train!

  10. You've got a Lab in the mix now. You are looking at 5 different breeds here. Some in the gundog(sporting) group and others in the working group. They are all very different dogs. What suits your lifestyle best?? Labs go on and on and have a higher exercise need than a Bernese..

Speak to people who oen the breeds, contact their breed clubs which i suggested before and get an idea of what the breed really are like and ask to meet some of the breeds by visiting breeders.

  11. Both are intelligent dogs.  But it depends if you want a high or low energy dog.  Labs can be very high energy and Bernice Mountain Dogs are usually more laid back.  Another thing to think about is the maintenance of each breed.  Bernice Mountain Dogs would take more grooming because of their long hair.

  12. I prefer the Bernese Mountain dog. What the swiss say about the Berener is "three years young dog, three years good dog, three years old dog, everything else is a gift from God."

Oh course the Berners are big and can playfully jump on you resulting in injury...but then so can a large lab.

Make a list of the pro's and con's for each dog and then go from that.

Which ever you decide on go through a rescue group, rather than a breeder.

  13. i think that the Lab is better because i just think they are more loyal and i just think they are soooooooo cute!!!!!!

    hope i helped!

  14. BERNESE MONTAIN DOG!

you'lll get so much more compliments and labs are just way too common!
