Which German city would be best for a short break this Autumn?

I am not really interested in the night life more interested in sight seeing.

I have read that Munich is beautiful, especially in late September when the weather is still warm, and the city is alive with a sunburst of autumnal colours.  It is also a very friendly place, with cultured and cosmopolitan locals, and plenty of sights to see.  Splash out and enjoy yourself!

I would suggest Ulm or Neu-Ulm as your close to alot of the main attractions in southern Germany.

I highly recommend Hamburg.  I spent three months working there a couple of years ago and it's a fantastic City.  Lots and lots going on, with festivals and street parties.  It's set on a river, and a huge lake - with canals coming off.. in fact there are more canals than Venice.   If you can, delay your visit to late November/early December and make the most of the Christmas Fair - which is so much more than a market.. ice skating, roller-coasters, stalls, bars everything!  Hamburgers sure can party!  

One tip though - fly into Hamburg.. not to Lubeck Hamburg (Ryanair) - as Lubeck is a couple of hours from Hamburg City Centre.

i still haven't found a german city or town that disappointed me.  koeln, duesseldorf, frankfurt, munich, nuernberg.  smaller towns can be more interesting though - hameln or bad harzburg are my recommendations.

I'd say Muenchen (Munich) or Berlin. They are all great places. For example, there is one-day bus in both cities, so you could take the bus to appreciate most important points. And if you're in Berlin, there is a congress. You could see the progrssing meeting, 'cause the big wimdow is transparent., but the line is always very long.  There is also a TV tower. Inside there is a fantastic restaurant; thus, you can see the whole city, cool?

The night life is also intoxicating, if you like. You know, too much stuff..

But if you're in Munich and you like Beer, remember to drink "Maibock"! It's the best beer to me. There is also a river called ISAR. Beautiful! Before the city hall, there is a wonderful clock, you can see they are dancing! If you like soccer, there is also the best arena in Germany. You can see the FC Bayern. or you like BMW, don't forget to get a glimpse in the two-cylinder building.

No question about it.  Hamburg.  It is the most awesome city in Germany, with all the water, lakes, canals, etc.  Very cool city.

I enjoyed Heidelberg, Bad Toelz, Koenig See area, Bad Nauheim is a great place to just take in the seasons and Kur Park. Also, the Harz are absolutely gorgeous.  If you WANT a great time, you will have a great time.

Berlin is a fabulous city to visit at any time of the year. There is easily enough there to fill and long weekend break. Good public transport links, funky people, lots of history and great for sightseeing whatever you are interested in.

I also love the Cologne / Dusseldorf region, but things are more spread out and you probably need a car. Lovely scenery and, again, lots of history and culture. Cologne cathedral is lovely, and you get a great view if you can make it up the steps in the spire. Dusseldorf has a chocolate factory on the Rhine which is fun and there are lots of museums and churches and galleries to visit.

Just depends what you want from your holiday really.

The weather in Germany is almost the same during the autumn.

I recommend to visit Leipzig, Dresden, Berlin, Hamburg or Munich.
