Which Greek islands would you recommend in winter?

My daughter and I are taking our once-in-a-lifetime trip. We are planning 4 days in Athens and 4 days "somewhere else" in Greece. We have considered Theseloniki and Delphi, but she really wants to go to the Greek islands.

There are so many. Where would you go for 4 days and what would that be like in December?

Thank you for your help :)

  1. Corfu was very, very nice.  Loved every minute I was there.

  2. corfu rodos

  3. Greek islands is cold and wet during October to May , also a lot of the resorts shut up September end or at the latest Mid Oct, and don't open back up to late May early June,  The Ionian islands such as Zante, Kelfonia, Corfu are very green in vegetation and that's why, I would check with Travel Agent to advise you , but Greece is definitely a summer Holiday resort.

  4. My friend Maria visits Santorini every year for the Christmas holidays. I haven't been there myself, but I've seen the millions of pictures she's taken and the beautiful scenery and charming villages always amaze me. Then I sulk about being stuck in Canada for another snowy, deathly cold winter.

However, if you're a beach lover like me, Santorini isn't the best choice. Mykonos, Paros and Naxos are famous for their gorgeous beaches.

Kefalonia's Myrtos Beach was named the best beach of Greece a few years back by voters. Check out this picture. http://image59.webshots.com/659/1/8/50/2...

If you're more interested in cool museums, then Crete's Heraklion Museum and Santorini's Museum of Prehistoric Art are both amazing.

But I think you'll have a great time no matter where you go. It's really hard to single out one or several of the Greek Islands as better than the rest, because they're ALL gorgeous and they all have unique highlights.

Lucky b*****d. I'll be snowed in and bored out of my mind while you're enjoying your Greek vacation.

  5. Greece doesn't have a tropical climate. It's cold in the winter. A normal person can't swim. So if you are looking for an island with great scenery Santorini is the best choice. If you are looking for an island with lots of people (during winter season) Mykonos or Crete are the best ones. From the last two i would choose Crete if interested to visit the ruins of the Minoan civilization, or Mykonos to see the classic white houses and windmills and live a more cosmopolitan lifestyle.

  6. I wouldn't recommend any island in winter - stick to the mainland - there are some beautiful places with island atmosphere - Epirus is the most beautiful place in Greece! Zaogoria villages are like stepping back in time!
