Considering he had, on retirement, 61 official NHL records and numerous unofficial records as well. (The fact he had 61 official records is also an unofficial record.) Which do you feel will be repeated or bettered and how long do you think it will take for that record to be broken?

  1. As amazing as Wayne was , all records are made to be broken, some just take longer and while some of his, 50 in 39 games, assists in a season, and of course, career totals may seem untouchable, never say never. I had the pleasure of watching him during his Oiler years as a season ticket holder and while some of his totals are phenomenal , no one ever expected Gordie's record to be broken so it would be niave to say any of Wayne's won't be broken either, another Great one will come along and with the 2 line pass gone and obstruction virtually eliminated, and talk of bigger nets, smaller goalie equipment, etc, I can see some if not most of Wayne' records being broken. Hopefully not in my lifetime though.

  2. MOST CONSECUTIVE 40-OR-MORE GOAL SEASONS(12) - I think that OVIE might have a shot at this one if he continues to play like he has and stays healthy.... I know its a longshot, but there is a chance!

MOST OVERTIME ASSISTS (15)- This one will have to fall! WIth the 4-4 5 min OTs being played so much, I cant see this one not being passed! I know it would be a cheap way to pass it, considering the rule changes, but ths one will fall soon enough.

  3. To amicably correct DC FURY, it seems Paris Hilton doesn't need to be on coke to be scored upon. I think just a Coca Cola classic would do the trick.

Getting back to the question, which is, after all, about Wayne, one of his most amazing records has to be the 163 assists in 85-86 (and it's not like he didn't get pucks on net that year: still got 52 goals)

LOL .. good one CME .. not sure about oil with KFC .. we have Church's down here

  4. His record of 15 regular season OT assists has been broken by Messier (18), Oates(17) and Lidstrom (16).  Unless I'm just buzzing here.

I would say his total points including playoffs is safe at 3,239.

How about his 378 goals in his last season of Pee-Wee hockey? That looks safe too,lol

To be broken, possibly most 3 goal games in one season (10)  I can see Ovechkin doing it within the next five seasons.

My crystal ball is being spiritually cleaned.

  5. 50 goals in 39 games is definitely safe at least for the time being, along with 92 in a season.  I can see his 13 All-star game goals getting past now that it's easier to score then it is with Paris Hilton on coke.

  6. I think his assists record will never be broken. When you have more assists then anyone has points its pretty safe.

Agree with Nippleage on the record to be broken.

  7. I think most of them are safe considering the era he played in- a freakishly high offensive era mans that a lot will never be matched.

Most overtime assists is going to fall like NIPS said though. And I agree with him on the 40 goal seasons one too.

All star assists and points may also fall with the scoring the way it's been in recent years.
