I have a sonicview4000 right now on a old crt tv. I'm planning on buying a 720p LCD around 42 inches. So, i'm thinking of upgrading the receiver. Are there any suggestions? Any sites I can look at reviews? What are the price ranges? What can I do with my old receiver. Would I have to adjust anything with the dish or lnbs?

  1. I have heard great things about the Viewsat 9000 HD.  All HD units are still pretty expensive but if you're stuck with a coolsat 4000-6000 or any other receiver that has discontinued or intermittent support, now is as good a time as any to buy.  I would not buy coolsat again, it was down for 6 months a year and a half ago while viewsat had working bins and coolsat has recently decided to quit support for many of their popular yet older models.

As for the TV I would get a Samsung DLP 1080p HDTV of any size, they are a digital light projection TV and have the best picture quality from what I've seen for the price.

I think you do need an HD compatible dish but im not very sure. I would keep your old reciever around just as a backup or for a second TV in the house.
