I mean OVERALL. For games, movies, TV programs, sports, life lastingness. Does any of them have any problems? If so, all they present even in the newer models? Need help picking a type! Also, we are putting the TV in the basement and we do watch a lot of movies. I also have a Wii and might get a PS3.

  1. dlp

  2. I have LCD, and it's okay. Plasma looks best to me. Especially for wii!

  3. I have 3 different LCDs; because I was concerned about pixel burn out on plasma.  All are better than early versions.  So buy the one that fits you needs and looks resonably good to you.  I recommend purchasing DVD Essentials and setting up the TV using that.  The fact is most stores DO NOT have the TVs properly adjusted.  Now ask yourself 720p or 1080p?

  4. for this:

    LCD excellent for video games

Plasma: excellent for HD movies and sports

however I have not have owned a DLP TV before so I would not know.

Personally get an LCD because it has longer lifespans, does not creat burn in as easiy as Plasma, has a wider range of 1080p TV selections and in some higher end LCD's they have 120hz procesing speed. Which menas the movements on the TV will become smooth

  5. rear projection is the best for gamming, lcd, and plasma will burn out and will not look good after time while gaming

  6. plasma

  7. Early plasma TVs had a problem with picture quality degrading in a relatively short period of time, but that problem has now been resolved, and for overall quality, and now longevity, plasma is probably the best bet.

  8. Each type has its own ups and downs.  LCD is inexpensive, but the image quality suffers due to poor black levels, mediocre contrast and slow refresh rates.  They have gotten better in recent years but most videophiles avoid them for general TV use.  They would likely be better for gaming since they do not suffer from burn-in as plasmas can.  Plasma offers better image quality and has black levels closer to a CRT, and you can get a true HD 1080p set for a reasonable price.  I would suggest a Samsung or Panasonic as these tend to be the better models-one thing you need to know about plasma is that the quality varies more from maker to maker, so do research before purchasing, and keep in mind that they are prone to burn-in from static images, like game screen icons.  Again, they have improved recently but it's still an issue.

DLP is a good choice, but the sets are physically large and somewhat expensive.  They work by refracting light off of tiny mirrors and require replacement of the bulb every so often, which can run around $100.  DLP is a good choice if you have the room and pocketbook.

  9. I've had a lot of friends, that with different brands of Plasmas have had problems with the bulbs.
