I'm using ABeka this year, and they are pre-collage courses. I'm homeschooling again for eighth grade but I don't know which program to use. People who have been homeschooled please say so.

  1. Hi!

I am home schooled and in 8th grade this year. I use Calvert, and I love it. It does cost a little less than 1,000, but it comes the books and everything. However, it stops at 8th grade, so you will need to get another in 9th, and it doesn't have pre-college courses. I'll probably take some classes at the local community college next year, as well as a curiculum.

    Good luck fellow home-schooler!

  2. I've been in Connections Academy for three years.

You should definately look into it. It's free.

They send computer, books, printer, and checks like 2-3 times a year to help you pay for internet.

  3. I'm gonna agree with the Lemur on this one.  unless you WANT to be a socially inept adult, I suggest not homeschooling.  Every homeschool kid I've ever known had an extremely difficult time adjusting when put into situations that require human contact with their peer group.

  4. ABEKA

    SAXON

    BOB JONES

       are the best..

  5. If you like A Beka, why don't you use it again next year?  I thought it was a good program.

  6. My son currently has two classes from K12's middle school:

We've used K12 for over 5 years and love it!

  7. Please ignore the advice from those who are uninformed about homeschooling.  Homeschoolers are actually recruited by many colleges and perform very well academically and socially.

Are you unhappy with Abeka?  What is or isn't working?

As a starting point, here is some information on different homeschooling methods you can try if Abeka is not working.  There are links on those pages to additional information and popular programs you may want to consider.
