  1. There are some that are free depending on where you live and if not then there are some that are affordable like Progress Academy. They are available for anyone regardless of where you live as long as you have an internet connection. But chck out to see if there are free ones where you live before looking into private ones.

  2. Not sure what you mean - are you looking for an online school, or for a curriculum, or a tutoring service?  Please clarify.

  3. Your most "affordable" (that's relative, BTW) school-at-home options are virtual public schools (not legally HS'ing - they're public schools).

Here's a list of schools that use the awesome K12 curriculum:

If you use a private online school, you're looking at a minimum of $350/course/semester/0.5 credit.  I don't know if that's affordable for you or not.

If you don't want to use a virtual program, then there are all sorts of HS'ing curriculum to choose from in high school.  You can get it online used, at local HS swap sales, at library sales, etc.

  4. Well it wasn't expensive for us. But Switched on schoolhouse. This program is so easy. At least for the senior year. I am almost done with 3 classes and its been 2 months

  5. What are you looking for?

Some states have free online programs that are funded through public school money.  In Florida, we have the Florida Virtual School that's free.

Or you can design your own curriculum using resources such as library books from the public library.  Designing your own this way can make it free for the curriculum.  Your library may even have some books in it on how to design your own curriculum.  Some public libraries have textbooks that you can check out, but all have books that you can put together to make into a curriculum.  Use classic literature for English.  Use books on how to write well or how to improve your grammar or how to make good presentations can round out an English curriculum.  Libraries have all sorts of wonderful nonfiction books that can be used to put together science and history/social studies courses.  And most have books on math or on preparation for math tests that can be used for math, though that's one area you might want a bit more help in.

Or find a local homeschool support group and find out if they have a used curriculum sale.  Many do have them during the summer months.  That can be a great way to get curriculum materials at a reasonable price.

Or call around to your local high school.  Some schools will give away textbooks that they don't want--either old ones that they aren't using anymore, or new ones that they decided not to buy.  Some will let you borrow books that they won't be using.  It can't hurt to ask.

  6. There are a couple that are free, aside from possibly printing material off.

Old Fashioned Education is the only one that is completely free, grades K-12 that is not government sponsored. It comes with 40 weeks of scheduling for each grade and a page with links to the readings you will need. It is VERY cool. I am using part of it this year for my daughter, and most of it the next. Along with parts of....

Ambleside Online. It's a *mostly* free curriculum. There will be some books that can't be found on-line but must be purchased off-line. The books that must be purchased off-line can be found for a reasonable price, however.

There's a Yahho Group called 3RHomeschooling, a support group for parents that use these curriculums and other "classical" education formats. The group LOVES to share free-finds with each other, as well. ;)

You are also welcome to visit my blog, at which I have many links to free things as well. I ask that you keep any comments peaceful, however! It's not a debate blog. :)
