Actually....In IPL the best (as well as most expensive)team was DECCAN CHARGERS. But they failed because the didnt have a better captain VVS Laxman is not suitable 4 being a captain. And by the time Adam Gilchrist b'came the captain whole of team deccan was already in a loss.

it certainly is a big surprise that teams with quality international performers aren't doing greats in the IPL. It wasn't really much that the franchisee owners could do about, because when it comes to players like Gilly, Afridi. Gibbs, Boucher, Kaliis....one can't resist having them in the team. So according to me, it was just bad luck for them.

A team like the Knights certainly were very close, but what i feel while i watch the matches  is that Kolkata isn't able to play the 11 which they had decided to give the responsibilty while the players were bought in the bid. The basic prospective of the Knights were to have Ricky Ponting, Brendon McCullum, David Hussey, Shoaib Akhtar, Brad Hodge, Ishant Sharma playing in one team together at one time, which certainly never happend for them. In the later stages i realised that Knights were just playing with the dependence of batting on Hussey and Ganguly  and bowling on Ishant and Dinda. So for Knightriders it wasn't bad luck, but it was just wrong team combination and unavailablity of the players.

Coming to the performing teams like Rajasthan and Daredevils which were certainly light on the pocket of the franchisee owners, i think they had a stratergy for selecting the team.

When you are choosing an IPL team you need to keep in mind that 7 out of 11 players have to be Indians. So first step needs to be to make a team of all the local talent you have. When you have formed a team of 7 local players, go through the team and check that what kind of players are lacking in the team. For eg. in the Daredevil's local team there wasn't any wicketkeeper, there were not even a single strike bowler and they just had two all rounders. So when you are going in the bid of overseas players you need to only look for these fillers which complete the team. And that's how it happened, Daredevils bought India's second best keeper Dinesh Kartik and South African part time wicket keeper batsman A B DeVilliers. They bought three strike bowlers in Glenn McGrath, Mohammed Asif, and Brett Geeves. They bought two all rounders Tilakratne Dilshan and Daniel Vettori.

And this is how Rajasthan and Daredevils succeeded, because at the end of the you have to play 7 locals and the 4 overseas players can't do everything.

A team with the 7 locals performing has to at the top of the table, no doubts about it.
