There are news reports of file-sharers being done for illegal uploads and downloads in the UK. This is because ISPs are now passing on the details of the people who do this. Which ISPs are doing this?

  1. Every single ISP in the country must divulge customer details if required by law. The agencies 'doing' people for illegal file-sharing are upholding the law, and as such have a right to ask for that information.

If you're worried about it, dont share files or do anything else illegal on the internet, simple as that.

  2. ISP's have to pass on details if requested  by law. But I don't think an awful lot is going to happen to most occassional illegal downloaders, and only to the most prolific downloaders eg. millions of illegal files. None of the ISP's are going to want to cut service with illegal downloaders because a) they will lose profit and b) it doesn't concern them. So unless the agencies plan to fine everybody/seize half the country's computers, it's not going to happen!

I think the music industry should think about making music more affordable for teenagers, because they probably make up the biggest percentage of illegal file sharing.

  3. My ISP state on their website they do not track what their customers download and are prepared to go to court to protect the individuals privacy. However they do state that,if compelled by law they will have no choice, and divulge names and addresses of anyone being tracked
