  1. DO NOT BUY CLUBS ON EBAY!!!!!

it is impossible to verify their authenticity unless they are being sold by an ebay store that just ends up being a web store anyway.  Go to www.globalgolf.com there you can buy all kinds of used clubs and know that they are authentic. If you are a 12 handicap you should try to get blade style irons. It's preferable that they are cavity back. Just don't get ones that have deep cavities like Callaway Big Bertha. Those clubs are too forgiving for where you are and where you want to go. My suggestion is to try and get titleist cb-?? irons. They are blade style and cavity back. Forged would be best because it will give you excellent feel for great ball striking and good feedback when it's bad.

    here's a link to a good set

I know that's more than one but I can't help it.

  2. ebay look for brand names like Wilson or Calloway though

  3. Callaway X20's

  4. First of all, the style of iron is all up to you. Whatever suits your eye, swing and personality best will help you play the best. If you're a 12, that means you probably strike the ball fairly consistently. You also probably don't need too much forgiveness. Personally, being about the same handicap, I chose to play almost-blade irons (Mizuno MP-60). They are just a little more forgiving than true blades, but still give me the right amount of feedback, letting me know HOW I've mishit a shot, when I do.

Secondly, I've bought quite a few sets of clubs off of eBay, and every single time it has worked out just as I expected. I've never been ripped off. I've never had someone grade a club a 9/10 when it's really a 7/10. You don't have to worry about your purchase on eBay. There is one thing, though, that eBay doesn't offer, and that is the ability to try out the irons before you buy. Since your budget is limited, buying the wrong set of irons could be painful.

I recommend going to a golf shop (Golfsmith is my favorite, but PGA Tour Superstore, Edwin Watts, etc.. are also good) that allows you to test some irons. Also, many times on eBay, you can pick up a demo 6 iron for almost nothing. It's not quite like having a whole set to try, but you can take all the time you want to decide.

Further, one good way to save money is to build them yourself. Golfsmith (www.golfsmith.com) is a good components dealer. You get a much wider range of customization that way, too, and it's not very difficult to assemble clubs. For $400, you could build a nice set of irons and have money left over for some hybrids or something.

If you were to build them yourself, I would highly recommend a combo set (you get to design it yourself, see?). In your short irons, I would recommend the Snake Eyes 675B. This is a true blade-style iron, but in your short irons, the feel and responsiveness should override forgiveness. In your mid irons, go with the Snake Eyes 675C. This is almost the same exact head, but it has a small cavity that will provide more forgiveness, while still retaining most of the feel of the 675B. Then, maybe in your 3 and 4 irons, you could build some of the Snake Eyes Viper hybrids. If you used True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts (#1 iron shaft on tour), with $5.00 Winn grips, your total for supplies is about $360.00. And that's a pretty high-end set right there.

Before dismissing making your own clubs, consider this:

    1. It's fun.

    2. You get to pick EXACTLY what you want.

    3. You can make any sort of hybrid/combo/progressive set you wish.

    4. It's much cheaper, and the quality is really about the same as the big name brands.

    Hope this helps!!!

By the way, Diamond Tour Golf is also a good components dealer, but they are online-only. Golfsmith has retail stores you can visit, although there aren't that many nationwide. I'm lucky to live in Atlanta, near 3 of them.

  5. good luck with $400, if you want a good name club, they are gonna be used and old now. but Callaway makes good irons if u can find them in that budget

  6. Cobra FP, Callaway X-20, Mizuno MX-25, Ping Rapture, TaylorMade r7, or Titleist 775CB.  Try these sites:

    tgw.com

    ebay.com

    golfgalaxy.com

    golfdiscount.com

    edwinwatts.com

    golfsmith.com

    rockbottomgolf.com

    globalgolf.com

    gppgolf.com

    austads.com

    callawaypreowned.com

  7. i would hav to say Ebay if u hav a budget of $400. u will find the well known brands like calaway and titleist. and they will b cheap. the irons i would buy if i were in ur shoes would be the taylormade TPs. they are real easy to hit and work a treat. they are a forged iron and and a cavity back which makes them easy to hit. but it is ur choice remember. woteva u choose will suit ur game so good golfing and good luck in the hunt for the right irons.

  8. You can't be too fussy. For $400. should buy a great set of used irons  or  a new set of reasonable good irons from a golf shop or sporting goods store. The main thing is the iron must have " feel". When you hold the club normally and wiggle it, you can feel the head at the end of the shaft. You don't want it to feel " light" or too " heavy". You do want to feel that head for your whole swing. The shaft also has to accomodate your swing speed. If you stick to those premises you should find a decent set of irons. Never buy without the try.

  9. Check out your local pro shop.Number one they can look at your swing and analyze which clubs fit your game. Number two sometimes your local Pro shop will have trade-ins' that are sold at a lower price, and number three if you find which clubs will improve your game but can't afford the new ones, then I suggest that you look on E-bay,The Golf Warehouse,or some other discount golf outlet. I hope this helps you,and good luck with your game.

  10. I just bought a set of Callaway's fusion irons for 400 from their pre-owned ebay site.  The clubs are great and I couldn't find a better price anywhere else.  Plus the clubs came w/ a certificate of authenicity from Cally.  Would highly recommend either the Fusions or X20s.

  11. I play Top Flite Ti's and like them a lot. I don't know how much they'd cost though. Try eBay.
