I am looking for a 2005 model Japanses car (Accord, Camry, Altima and even Impala??) .

Qualities I am looking for in order of preferences are:

least expensive

reliability

longevity

least and easy maintainance

spacious ( will be putting in baby seats in 1-2 years )

safety

resale

I am an experianced driver but my wife will learn driving on this car, so I am taking that into account as well.

I will basically drive within the city to do grocceries e.t.c but once every other week I will drive 50-60 miles back and forth on highway.

  1. First - Impala is not Japanese, it is American.

Out of the other three, the Camry has the most room, the Altima will probably be the least expensive, and the Accord is the best driver. All should be reliable and economical - get them with the four cylinder engine in any case, they'll be cheaper and better on gas. All are pretty safe - I had an 05 Accord and had a head on crash with a Trailblazer six months ago and walked away - so I'm perhaps biased in favor of the Honda here (I have an 08 Accord now).

You have to realize, if it being the least expensive is high priority, the reasons why it costs less are usually because of the other items in the list. The best made, most reliable, best resale cars cost more used. Resale is not something you should really worry about much, since you're buying used if the car has poor resale value that means you'll pay less to buy it. It's a major factor when buying new, but not used - the Accord will cost more than an Altima because it has better resale value - but that isn't helping you when you're buying a car that is nearly four years old.

The bottom line - all of these are good cars, and any will be roomy enough for a couple of baby seats, but they are all used, so make sure you get it checked out by a mechanic, look for maintenance records, carfax, all that stuff. Go to Edmunds.com to price out any cars you're looking at to get an idea of it's value so you don't overpay.

    Good luck
