OK, So I am buying a new laptop for my daughter she's 13. She will be using it for, itunes, Internet, and sometimes HOMEWORK. You know just basic, kid's stuff. I can't decide between these two laptops:

The HP is 50 dollars cheaper, but its also 50Gb less, and it has an AMD processor instead of the Intel (which I hear is better) Please help me. Read the Specs, and such and tell me which one should I get, if any.

Or, tell me another computer that I could get at around the same price range, 600-700 that would be better.

  1. get the 50 dollar cheaper one cause she 13  and laptops break easier and if she want to play with it anywhere  then just get the cheaper one

  2. They both look pretty good. But based on their customer service and tech support reputation, I would go for Toshiba over HP. The Turion chipset is not really that bad, but Core 2 Duo is really good. Both have adequate hard drive space and enough RAM for most Vista applications. In either case, don't let Firedog do the setup. They can really mess up and slow down a perfectly good laptop.

  3. If you do your own research on Laptops you will see quite clearly that Toshiba is, and historically, always has been, one of the elite when it comes to Laptops.

For anyone to say that HP is better than Toshiba, has their head up the old rear end.

I work with Computers every day for the past 14 years, in graphically intense environments. I have either owned or worked on 8 HP's in that time.

Every single one of them have had problems. Costly problems.

the 4 Dells I've owned or worked on have been stellar, and 3 of those have never had one problem.

HP computers have alot of propriatary coding and software which conflicts with some networking issues, and some antivirus software. I personally have come to detest HP computer....As well as Compaq. ( they are the same company)

Regarding the two choices you are considering from Circuit City......The HP only has a 4200 RPM hard drive...the Toshiba has a 5400.

This means that the HP is going to be noticeably slower than the Toshiba.

Where laptops are concerned, the biggest bottleneck in speed occurs in the hard drive. you can put a 4200rpm hard drive in a laptop with a higher processer speed and more ram...and it will still Always be slower than a mediocre laptop with a 5400 rpm hard drive in it.

    hope this helps

  4. I like the HP laptop. This is a good laptop like IBM Lennovo.

  5. HP is better then toshiba..

    it has shape and look

    i sagges

    you to buy HP..

  6. If she's just going to putz around on it, any old computer you get her will be fine. When she starts playing first-person 3D shooter games with 5.1 digital surround sound... that's when you start worrying about what kind of computer to get her.

Personally, I would go with Toshiba - they tend to last longer. I work with ITS on my campus, and see many more HPs come through than Toshibas. I also own a Toshiba myself and have done for the past three years, without problems. But HPs also work just fine. Now Dells... avoid those like the plague. Do not be attracted by their shiny low prices - they break after about a year. Toshiba or HP work much better.

  7. If you want everything get a Dell insprion 1420 its about $800 w/finasi

ng at best buy. It has three gigs of memory and everything else you need. If she wants looks (taking out apple) get a vaio.

  8. For what she is going to use it for, they are equally comparable, i'd go with the cheaper one.

AMD vs INTEL on this particular issue is irrevelant, and its not like she needs the extra 50GB to do homework, if she downloads a lot of music she may want it for the extra space though, it is VERY rare to use 200GB on just music though, were talking about enough room for 130,000 songs, how much does she like music? lol

Your call, the specs are too close to matter in my opinion, i'd go with the lower cost.
