  1. There are many areas to compare one country to another, but i'm going to focus on the social aspects of their societies.

There are also many studies to take into account.

I'm starting with the Human Development Index, which ranks Argentina first with 869 points, Chile second with 867 and Uruguay third with 852.

The Gini Coefficient is used as a meassure for wealth distribution, in its index the closer to 0 means the closer to perfect equality. In this index Nicaragua ranks first with 43.1 points, Uruguay second 45.2 and Mexico third 46.1.

Another important statistic would be the percenteage of population living in poverty, the primary index is based on the percenteage of population living with less than 2 dollars a day, in this rank the lowest figures are those of Chile 5.6%, Uruguay 5.7% and Costa Rica third with 9.8%.

Those are just figures, but they show the standards of living of each society.

  2. I'm venezuelan and the better countries are.. Brasil. Mexico. Venezuela, And Argentina!

  3. I am not sure but I just came back from three months in Costa Rica and I can say that they are stable, their economy, on a per capita level, is only trailing Argentina's (slightly) and Chile's (a little bit more), they only have a 6% unemployment rate, and the people are very very very very very very nice and also VERY happy. It was very cool to see a nation which is not as materially well-off as completely developed nations, but where people are still quite proud of their achievements and love their country with little desire to head for more-developed countries.

Of course, Costa Rica HAS no army.

And, since I studied there myself, I can say that I went to a good university called Veritas, which is small and fairly exclusive, where I met a ton of students from all across Latin America who come there to study architecture and industrial design (it's a design school). Also they have two major universities, one being Costa Rica National University in San Jose, which is home to 40,000 students and is a large, respected university that covers all fields. They also have another one, also somewhat large with 15,000 or so, but which focuses a little bit more on the social sciences, such as human development and community education and planning.

Also, it was just surprising to me, but it's not like there isn't a well-sized middle class in Costa Rica... I mean, they have a ton of those new Fiats and Peugots that everyone in Europe is driving, tons of 2002 and up models of the Corolla, also Highlanders, quite a few of some kind of brand new Mitsubish truck, and also a good spattering of BMWs, Audis, and Land Rovers... some cars, such as any U.S. make.

Also, they have the LOWEST crime rate in Latin America, and also the lower murder rate. Their murder rate is on par with ours (U.S.), and their violent crime is very low (although increasing a bit now)... but, their overall crime rate is considerably higher than ours because they have a lot of theft... Bars on all the windows of every single building and house up until you get about 3 hours away from a large city, then only half the buildings/houses have them... I was only in one town (La Fortuna) where almost no buildings/houses at all had bars. And the U.S. embassy in Costa Rica has the highest number of passport thefts reported out of all U.S. embassies in the world (even far more populated countries that, in sum, get far more U.S. tourists, such as Mexico).

So that may not exactly answer your question... But for me, I think that I would be able to move, find a job, and adjust to life fairly well in four Latin American countries: Panama, Argentina, Chile, and Costa Rica. I have only been to Costa Rica of those 4, but know quite a bit about the others.

Also, have traveled to Peru. Loved it. But would not live there... Considerably more dangerous, quite a racist society (relative to Costa Rica's, which has little racism), and very high unemployment.

  4. Why do you want a powerful military?  (Costa Rica only has a police force--no army).  And why international influence?

  5. mexico is probably the most corrupt but is has the secon best army after Brazil.

  6. Venezuela.

  7. Colombia!!!!!!!!!!! dance,pretty people,nice food,nice beaches,nice ,latin american taste,bogotá,medelli,cucuta,calí,santa marta,san andres,barranquilla,cartagenariohacha are so cute cities,those are the paradise of the eralth.

  8. Best... I think that's relative. There are leaders in every category. Here are my answers:

Economy: I would say Brazil, it is the biggest country in Latin America. If we talk about per capita terms, I would say Chile. However, there are countries like Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay, Costa Rica, and Panama that also have respectable economic figures.

Political Status: I would say Costa Rica, it has been by far the most stable country in the region. Probably Mexico could be the runner up, but corruption has made things bad. However, you don't see that many coups and stuff like that in Mexican political life. The rest of the countries have had some sort of political problem in the last years.

Military: Brazil, and then Mexico. However, there are countries like Colombia and Venezuela that have significantly increased their military expenditure. However, there are not that many wars in the region, so military is not a great issue.

Influential: Mexico, it has a strong, very strong cultural influence, especially thanks to TV and music. It is incredible to see that in places like Russia or Serbia people know mexican soaps and mexican music.

Educational: Mexico, by far. Mexico has the best universities in the region, a lot of people from other Latin American countries go to Mexico and study in their schools. Some of them have very good academic level and are not as expensive (note, NOT cheap) as schools in the US or Europe.

The problem with Mexico is that it's far away from most other countries, so Mexico will never be a leader in the region. Brazil, on the other hand, has a different language, so that's also a difference. Those two, in my opinion, are the strongest countries.

Others: well, Chile, but it's population is minimal. Argentina has always had my respect, and socially speaking they're strong, but political problems have been severe. Peru is growing, Colombia is hurt, but I have faith that it will grow. Costa Rica is an example in Central America, definitely. However, I wouldn't say that one of them is the best. It all depends on what and under which circumstance.

  9. Chile has been the best performing economy in Latin America especially after having a complete China - Chile free trade. Although Brazil, as a whole is the regions largest economy.

Argentina/Colombia is the destination to be and is at par with its European peers when it comes to education.

Costa Rica has one of the most stable political status in the region.

Powerful military? its Venezuela or Brazil.

    Most influential? Peru/Argentina/Brazil

All in all, I cannot say exactly who has the perfect combination of all the criteria you mentioned. One fact remains is that Latin America is a very dynamic, diverse and fun region! Enjoy!!!

  10. Colombia

  11. mexico

    brazil

    argentina

mexico has a lot of great schools (they are really hard and strict but they are good) and they have influence in pop culture with their artists such as Paulina Rubio, Belinda, RBD, Fey, Anahi, Moenia (pop singers known around the world) politics...let's just not go there.

  12. i'm gonna really obejetive not like the other answers, sorry to offend

so choose beetween chile and argentina

and chile has a free deal commerce with china !

  13. colombia.

  14. Colombia by far has the most dynamic country in the region.  Colombian's are the most educated by far in the region, and speak the best Spanish.  I've taken classes from American teachers that speak of Colombia in higher standards than the Colombians themselves.  They have the best doctors in the planet.  Best surgeons, fathered lasik to list a few.  There also the happiest in the region.  An Ecuadorian friend of mind said that Colombian people are way too happy, and wished the same for his country.  An American friend who grew up in Bogota, will not reveal, apart from me, that he is American.  He tells everyone he's Colombian, Colombia this, Colombia that, this is the way Colombian's do it, etc, gets annoying lol.  As for military, you mess with Colombia, America will back it up, and their military is American train.  Another interesting note, is that among the most recognized musicians in the world are from Colombia respectively, Shakira and Juanes!  They write and produce, or help produce their own music, unlike people like say, Jennifer Lopez, who is a medium for the music other song writers make. Check out these other producers, songwriters, between the two they write some of the best music heard in the Latin airways, Estefano, and k**e Santander.  Hope this helps, just wanted to emphasize the passion all Colombians have in their DNA!
